Question about Melt Pools

What is tooooo deeeep? I have heard that 1/2 inch is ok (a little deep) but ok. Anything larger than that is toooo deeep. I have a few scents that go as deep as 1/2 inch, but the next wick down drowns. I guess I will ease up on the FO.

I myself go for 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep but no deeper otherwise I try to wick down.

Honestly, if your mp is 1/2" deep, but your flame is the right size, your throw is great and there isn't a soot or smoke, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Perfection is overrated

And your jar isn't too hot. You have to pay attention to that too.

Our jars are going to a full melt when only halfway burned (it is a 10 oz apothecary, so it is not that deep to begin with). One jar was too hot to handle during the final burns, the other was ok. We are going to try another with the same wick and see what happens...and also go down one wick size and see if that helps.
