comfortscents Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Is anyone besides me tired of pastel coloring? It seems if I pour one more pink soap my house is gonna look like it's been hosed down with pepto bismal. I finally have one buyer who wants dark colors on her soaps and it's a joy..I admit most of my soaps are very shabby chic oriented and I should expect that the majority of my soaps will be pink but..I just poured Pink Beehives for someone and a pink goldfish..it's killing me. Also..I can't seem to find a red red..they all say red but truly they are varying shades of that detestable color pink..someone told me to get red food coloring, melt some clear glycerin, add the food coloring, let reharden then use as a red dye block...anyone heard of that?okay, I'm done venting..I just hate pink..and of course I'm wearing pink capris, pink sandals and a white top with a pink rose..god help me.. pamperme Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 gee I love pink it is the main color of my biz..lolbut I can see getting tired of pink..how about green, violet, blue, yellow, orange, coral. ? There are other colors in the rainbow. Maybe try different colorants.. I use liquids and yep it is hard to get dark colors..but you also have to be careful not to overdo it..i got a soap onetime and the color stained a washcloth I was using. ..i think someone posted about colors not that long ago on here for mp soaps...maybe do a search for it. MsDammit Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 besides brown, i only seem to end up with pastel pink, green, & orange so- believe u me-i know just how you feel. Quote
comfortscents Posted July 6, 2006 Author Posted July 6, 2006 I would kill to pour a brown soap...everyone orders pink from me..this last round of ebay auctions I poured all new soaps for photos in colors other than pink and they still ordered pink..right now, I'm feeling crazy and pouring purple..lol..I'm a wild woman I tell ya... Crafty1_AJ Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I prefer the vivid colors to be the swirls in my soaps. I'm not big on a giant neon green single-color bar, personally. But I love a vivid colored swirl! Quote

comfortscents Posted July 7, 2006 Author Posted July 7, 2006 if you use straight cinnamon it won't irritate skin like a cinnabun oil would? Quote
MsDammit Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 My daughter and I have been using the soap and have had no irritation. I only use like a tblsp or two for a 3lb batch. Quote
Crafty1_AJ Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Comfort, the truest red I've ever seen in soap is Dragon Lily's red liquid. I've posted a pic of soaps I've made before, so if you do a search you'll probably turn it up. It's in another thread about needing a true red in CP. I used it for a swirl in a batch of Cranberry Spice and posted the pic as an example of a good red (so it's not in the photo section).Edited to add: Soapsillywholesalesupplies carries the Dragon Lily liquid colorants now. Holy crap looks like i'm gonna be stuck with cinnamon for a mighty loong time!Yes but a few drops go a long way. I bought a set of six colors AGES ago and I've barely put a dent in 'em! Just a few drops per batch is all you need to get good color. Quote
giedre11 Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Hey what about the FD&C colorants? I had bought a sample pack some time ago...years actually! I did not know they were water soluble...I had some lakes in there and I do remember trying to mix it with water and it didn't work so I gave up on the whole thing. I have used some of these colorants for swirls and the ultramarine blue came out beautifully and never morphed to another color. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that some of these colorants speckled in CP. Just the other day I took these powdered dyes and mixed them with water {need preservative} and I've got some beautiful dyes! I mixed the sample packets in about 6 oz of water and just labeled the bottles. I don't have a lot of knowledge about these dyes, but I'm going to do some experimenting as they are very cheap to use. Only thing to remember is that FD&C or D&C are water soluble and the lakes and oxides??? are not...supposed to mix these others in glycerin and knead the plastic bag as they do not actually dissolve, but color by dispersion { I think that's where the speckling comes in!} However the water soluble dyes seem to be great...only thing with them is that you would have to do some mixing to get the shades you want. Bottom line is that they are way cheap compared to some of the soap colorants you buy online, and very concentrated. Quote
MsDammit Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 i tried using some wilsons colors for cp yesterday and it ended up with speckles-didnt look too good, guess i am going to try my first rebatch, lol. Quote
