tuxedo51 Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I can't find an answer to this particular problem in other threads about seeping. I made Buttermilk Pancake (BCN FO) in CB Advanced, 1 1/2 OZ FO per Lb, 2 drops of Ivory Liquid for color and added Stars (made in embed molds) on top with Chocolate FO. They were in the Anchor Hocking rectangle 8OZ glass containers . They looked great and I let them cure for 2 weeks before I tested one. It burned beautifully for over a week--(2 ECO 6 wicks). Then halfway down the candle it oozed a good half inch of FO. Smelled just like maple syrup! Overnight the FO disappeared and was back the next day. Now there is only a sheet of FO on top. Any ideas? The other 4 look good but haven't been burned yet. I'm so upset as these are the prettiest candles I've made and I'm still new to this. Could heat cause this in only one candle and should I melt and add more wax? Quote
grandmaskitchen Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 At what temperature did you add the fo to the wax? If you add it at too low of a temperature, it may not be mixing well with the wax. This could leave pockets of fo in your wax as the candle is burning. I usually add my fo at 175 degrees and stir slowly for a couple of minutes until it is well blended. Then I let it cool to the temp I want, then pour into containers. Hope this helps! Quote
tuxedo51 Posted July 2, 2006 Author Posted July 2, 2006 That could be the case. I just got a Presto Pot to use as a melter. I heat to 180 to 190 and pour it into an aluminum pot to color/scent. It may have gotten too cool. It makes sense this could be a pocket of FO since the other candles are fine. Thanks so much for your reply. I'll take more care to watch the temp and mix longer from now on. Quote
iammommytwo Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 sometimes some of my candles will "sweat", when they are exposed to the warmth and humidity, but I cannot say that I have ever had one have that much FO "leak". I heat my wax to 155-160, and add FO ~ 140.I do also notice that it seems to only happen w/the darker/heavier FO's. Perhaps you might try cutting back w/that particular one.HTH Quote
Meridith Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 It could be that particular FO and a combo of the heat. I have one that I have to cut back on because it will seep when it gets too hot. And this happens no matter what temp I add it ar or how long I stir. Quote
