Hi,

Well, I finally got the perfect wick with the right melt pool, I am using gb 415 with usa and I used the htp 93's in a 16oz. elevation jar, but now the wicks are leaving a black sooty stuff on the top of my wax!!!!!!!!! Was wondering if anyone had any other suggestion of which wick to try, am going to all soy, and just need some direction please. Also have tried peaks cotton core and they do the same thing. Any suggewstions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I noticed that with HTP's as well.

CD's are (so I've heard) the German version of the HTP's, and I've had no problem with them sooting. You might try CD12's if you can't find an acceptable solution with the HTP's.

CD's are coreless, not cotton cored. Taylored Concepts has them, as well as Bitter Creek, candlewic, and a variety of other places.

I have found the CD's to be a little worse on 'shrooms than HTP's overall but no soot whatsoever.

I've had that happen with HTPs in 415, but it happened when the candle was about half consumed and the odd air currents in the jar caused the flames to dance around somewhat, which can cause the sooting. Perhaps the downdraft is forcing the sooting down into the MP.

I use 415 and HTP's and I only notice sooting if the FO load is to high or if I overwicked and it burned too hot. I use CD's too and never had any mushrooming. Try Lonestars CD's I really like them and have had not difficulties with them. I have more mushrooming with Eco's and Cotton than anything.
