TeriM Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 if I were to but say bananas or strawberries in soap.. would I need to add some sort of preservative.. ?I had thought maybe some vitamin E... ?thanks TeriM Quote
TeriM Posted June 30, 2006 Author Posted June 30, 2006 I was really hoping you wouldn't say that.. I thought that might be what would happen but wasn't sure.. Quote
friendlyMOM Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 so what happens if you use food processor to grind up the fruit before adding it 2 the soap? I saw some recipes with strawberries in it, does it go bad too? Or have short shelf life? Quote
CareBear Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Lush had one with real bananas in it, but I don't know how they did it. It's discontinued though. Maybe you could dehydrate some bananas and then grind them??? Or find banana powder somewhere Quote
RobinInOR Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 If you really puree, it will work if you don't use too much. I'd say a tablespoon ppo would be the max. I've done applesauce, mashed bananas, pureed pumpkin. Baby food works great Quote
Bunny Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I agree. While the strawberry one won't be red, it'll turn brown, and the banana too, it should be do-able.I've done avacado, cucumber, carrots, cream cheese, yogurt, sour cream.. 1 Tablespoon PPO too.. Quote
clover Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I use 8oz pureed cucumber in 3lb soap. I use it to replace 8oz of water. As long as the cucumber is finely pureed, there is no problem. Once I grated it instead of pureeing it and ended up with little rotten or rancid-looking spots in the final soap.I've also soaped carrots (babyfood), canteloupe, strawberry, kiwi, avocado successfully using the same process. mountainmadness Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 It will turn brown and rot. :lipsrsealIf you puree it you can use it just fine. I have made a banana soap for quite some time with no issues. No preservatives just pureed and not too much. Add at trace.I have used pumpkin, bananas, strawberries, carrots, cranberries, blueberries, etc.The only one that I have not liked is the strawberries because they do turn brown. The rest do not discolor. Quote

SoapInTheCity Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I used an all fruit and fruit juice organic smoothie in a recipe once, and I had to throw it out! 1 of only 2 soaps I've had to do that with!It smelled awful. What a shame eh. Quote
