I want to use 4 oz of crisco, 2oz of cocoa butter, 6 oz of safflower oil, and 6 oz of canola oil and the calculater says i need 5 to 7 oz of fluid but still not sure how to see how much lye I need or even if the recipe will work, dont understand the lye calculater could use some help plz

Sounds like you may be using the MMS calculator.......not sure, as you don't say. But if it is the MMS one, over on the right hand side lists the superfat percentages.......I usually use 5% and that is where your lye amout is....after the 5%..........should be somewhere around 2.3 oz., but check your calculator to be sure. :cool2:

that is the calculater I am using but do I add up all the oz like if I am using 6 oz of safflower oil am I supposed to look down the list to the 6 and add the 2.31 with the rest of the oz calculations ?

that did not work was trying to paste it, okay now im getting scared of this soap thing, the lye calculator has me baffled, Im hoping I just add it all up but that seems like alot of lye

If you're using MMS then it tells you how much lye to use as well as how much liquid to use. You want to use around the 5 mark for lye. Then for water I'd use the lye x 2.5

Don't feel bad friendlymom, I'm still confused about those dang calcs, all of them are just over my head for some reason. :(

I had to have some just figure a recipe out for me, give me all the calculations so I could just make the dang soap already. LOL

I hope YOU can figure it out sweetie, cuz I know it's sooo frustrating. :(
