candlebean Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Hi all,I made my first batch of lip balm with a kit that I bought from www.pvsoap.com. It came out OK, but it was very light - you had to put a lot on to know you had anything on at all. Since I am so new to this, I know I need to experiment, but I don't know what does what? If I wanted to make a thicker lip balm, what ingredient do I need to add or need more of? I was using beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, and flavor oil. Thanks! Quote
Crafty1_AJ Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 My recommendation would be to go to Majestic Mountain Sage's website ( www.the-sage.com ) and check out their guidelines for creating lip balm recipes. They give you specific amounts of ingredients to use (brittle oils, hard oils, liquid oils, wax) . After you use that recipe, you can adjust to taste if you want a waxier balm, an oilier balm, etc. HTH! Edited to add: Don't really know what you mean by "thicker," but you may want to decrease your liquid oil a bit and increase your wax and hard/brittle oils a bit for "thicker" balms. Quote
candlebean Posted May 10, 2006 Author Posted May 10, 2006 Thank you - I knew there had to be somewhere to get the basics without making 835 recipies to find what I was looking for! Quote
