flutterbye Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I just returned from my local Michaels store in shock. They've raised their price on 11 lb. slabs of wax from 14.99 to 29.99! I've just been using Yaleys premium wax, But It's been working great. But now that it costs so much I was planning on ordering from Peaks. The 1343 Paraffin wax. Since I pretty much do only rustics and add all my own additives, I'm thinking this would be the best wax, right? My question is, Do i need to re-test all my scent/color/fragrence combos with this new wax? Since it's pure paraffin and yaleys is supposed to be as well. Thanks! Quote
topofmurrayhill Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Yeah the price of oil is sending wax prices through the roof. Unfortunately the price of shipping is through the roof too, so you'll have that to contend with if you order it.Since you're accustomed to the Yaley's Premium it would be nice if you could stick with it. One option is to order direct from http://www.yaley.com/candles/Premium_Wax.htm. For what Michaels is charging you can get twice as much, or a whole case for less than $55.I assume 1343 would burn very differently. Just for one thing the melt point is about 10 degrees lower. That's huge. Also generally there are paraffins that work better when you're using only stearic as an additive. http://www.candlewic.com has some good stuff with higher MPs that might not require as much adjustment. BCN http://www.candlesupply.com sells IGI 1218 which is 144 MP. Quote
Scented Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Actually it's not all that different in burn characteristics. At least it wasn't for me. You would still need to test it, but I think you would find that it would be close to what you're used to using. I used to use the Hobby Lobby wax (same as Michael's pretty much) and found the waxes to be similar. Not exact, but similar. Quote

Seems kind of unique as pillar paraffins go. Quote
Scented Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 No wasn't the premium. My mistake. It was a lower MP about 138 ish if memory is serving me right. Quote
