mindy5140 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I have had at least 10 people ask me to make them basically a soy blend candle because they don't like the natural look of soy. They rather have a nice creamy looking candle. Which I probably could just switch soys and get a creamier look but since I have non stopped tested my soy I'm already using. And finally am at a point to where I like it.I'm hesitant to switch or add on, because I wanted to get into B&B.I'm stuck, should I just say the heck with it and try out different blends or go with B&B, I could do both but my time and $$, is limited to one for right now.So anywho, is it worth it to have both types of wax???TIA,Mindy Quote
AngelaVA Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I don't carry both types. I am switching from paraffin to a soy blend. But if your customers are asking for it, I would give them what they want. You could find a nice soy blend and just test a few FOs at a time - adding your best sellers and maybe a few new ones you carry in the blend only. If you just do a little and not get carried away, you could still start into B&B too. The biggest thing would be choosing a wax to use. You could start with JS 50/50 (I'm testing this now and really like it) or the GL 70/30 (which I also like, lol). Or mix your soy with something else. Good luck Quote
Crafty1_AJ Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I carry both soy candles (not a parasoy blend) and paraffin blend (again, not a parasoy). I just have customers who prefer soy, and I have those who prefer paraffin, so I do both.I say you tell those customers to put on their big girl panties and DEAL with the fact that soy looks rustic! LOL (JUST KIDDING! Don't shoot me!)It is tricky to keep stocked up on both, but for me, it's worth it. Quote
Jordan Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 We carry both too. I actually sell quite a bit of the blend, and like Angela, we use JS 50/50. It is truly the best of both worlds. I love this wax, every scent in my soy line is just wonderful. I highly recommend this wax! (I also recommend their soy, it rocks!) Quote

Good luck Hey Angela--Have you tested the premier 700 wicks in the JS 50/50 wax I just got in my sample pack, and I am blown away at the amount of sizes they carry! I am hoping to find my double wick for the 50/50 in my apothecary jars---they are a bugger to double wick, probably me and not the wax. I have had somewhat success with the LX wicks, but the throw is less..... Quote
mindy5140 Posted May 9, 2006 Author Posted May 9, 2006 Thanks, I think I'll go through the search area and find what the best blend or what others are mainly using and test test test again, lol. Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it,Mindy Quote

I am heading over to the CD next, but I need to order a slab first, since my sample is almost gone. I really do like this wax though. Sets up well, burns well and smells great. Quote
mindy5140 Posted May 10, 2006 Author Posted May 10, 2006 I hate working with slabs, so is there a flake soy blend???Mindy Quote
iloga Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Jordan,If you're using 16oz apothecary jars, try double-wicking with either RRD29s or RRD34s. Quote

Ruby Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Hi..I use Natures Gardens Joy Wax mixed with 100% soy at 50-50. I like this blend. I also just tried Greenleaf's 70-30 and I am thinking of switching to it. I like the idea of a more natural candle and I only use HTP wicks. HTH..Ruby Quote
SheilaW Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I plan on carrying both. A pure soy with eo's and a soy blend with fo's. Quote
Brad Ford Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Joy wax is 30% soy - are trying to hit a specific ratio of soy to paraffin or is there anyother appearance/performance reason?Brad Quote
