Lightning Bug Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Hi. I have a fairly good mix of my hard to melt soy/low melt soy. I have about 7.5% of Peony White Tea from CC in this blend in a 8 oz. jelly. A CD 12, HTP 105, Premier 780, and a CD 14 all give me an acceptable melt pool. But, It throws well with the CD 14 and not much with the rest. Now for the question. Is this an ok size CD for this jar or should I change my mix to be harder or softer. It seems it has to have a fairly hot wick to throw even though the others melt the wax. So if the CD 12 doesn't throw well, I must need a hotter melt pool, right? Hope this is a clear explanation of my question. TIA. Beth Quote
Meridith Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I think those jars have about a 2 or 2/12 inch diameter so you should be getting a melt pool in about 2 or 2/12 hours. If the CD 14 throws the best with a melt pool about 1/4 inch deep after 2 hours or so and the jar doesn't get too hot, I'd stick with the CD 14. Years ago I tested with those jars and if I am remembering correctly, some of my FOs used that size wick. :smiley2: Quote

I know I can rely on the 14 to do the job!!!I get a great melt pool and throw.. I even use a CD16 on some of the hard to wick FO with great results. When I used the CD 12's, I found I got a very small melt-pool and some of my candles would drown out mid way....I guess it all depends on the soy wax and what is added to it.. HTH Quote
Candle Man Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 For a blend, with regular scents not heavy scents, I use a LX16 for an 8oz JJ.ETA - What you should be looking for with that jar...2-2.5 hours for a complete melt pool.Melt pool depth of 1/2 "If the wick you are useing now does not give you that then you need to try a different size or type wick, until you reach those results.Good Luck, Candle Man Quote
