celicagtca Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Hi Rachel,Here is a previous link in regard to your question:http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22318&highlight=beeswax+soy Quote
CelestialSoyCandles Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 For me, I found my minimum amount for getting rid of frosting without having to wick up and for me it was 1 tbsp of the white pastilles per lb.. I didnt want to get into weighing.. lazy... lolGood Luck Quote
Kaybee23 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I use 415 soy and add beeswax. About 3% per lb works well for me most of the time. It helps with the smooth tops, with the frosting and the throw. While it doesn't help with these issues 100% of the time, it does a great job most of the time. Quote
ladysj Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Do you add the beeswax to the soy after it's melted? I'd really like to try this with my soy flakes. That frosting drives me crazy. I have found that adding vybar to the soy prevents frosting and makes for a prettier candle.Do you have to do a repour when adding beeswax? Quote
Henryk Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 What type of vybar did you add? I ask because in the frosting department I found just the opposite using CBA (http://www.candletech.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=veggiewax;action=display;num=1113016238;start=).I also know with using vybar (at least with paraffin), you have to increase your FO all things being equal. Though I'm not sure if that also pertains to soy wax as paraffin is very different in structure.EDIT: When I used to use BW in soy I would melt the BW first, then add soy, heat up, finally add FO/dye. You should not have to do a repour with soy with BW and it should not cause the soy to crack unless over ~3%. Quote
ladysj Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I'm using the Vybar 103 in 100% soy flakes. I do find that it sinks and I have to repour but I've had no frosting at all with it. Thank you for the link. I've been reading over it and it's very informative. It may just be my nose but it does seem that the BW has affected the true scent some. It hasn't set up yet. I just poured them a little bit ago so I will see how it smells tomorrow. It is a very strong FO though. Wine and Roses at a little over 1 ounce pp. Quote
Kaybee23 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 That's weird, I always got frosting when I used vybar. I always found that if it was prone to frosting, that vybar helped it along. It's crazy that works for one but doesn't another. Quote
