Sab Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 For the initial burn my meltpool is reaching the sides at a rate of 1" per hour. How fast (or slow) should it reach the sides on subsequent burns? Quote
iammommytwo Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 as far as I know, your meltpool should be consistent during the entire burn process.what size (in diameeter) are you referring to?? a decent meltpool should be about 1/2 inch deep, but it depends on the diameter of the jar as far as how long that should take. for example- a 3inch jar should take 3 hrs to reach the proper depth in the melt pool.HTH Quote
Sab Posted May 4, 2006 Author Posted May 4, 2006 I'm using 3 inch jars and most of the time I'm getting a full meltpool in 3 hours. When I burn a second, third time, etc.- I'm getting a full melt pool in a shorter amount of time. Just wondering if this is okay. Quote
iammommytwo Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 sounds ok, as long as the meltpool isn't too deep. this will make your candle burn faster. you could always try one by wicking down. then you can compare the two. Quote
tangerine Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 You might want to wick down and compare. In my initial testing, I used to wick such that I'd get a full melt pool, about 1/4 to 3/8 inch deep in my first burn. But I found that this wick was too hot for subsequent burns, especially when there wasn't much wax left. So now I wick such that I get a little bit of a hang up in the first burn. It tends to catch up towards the bottom. Quote
