Grumpy Girl
I'm thinking about making my first batch of HP soap tonight and wondered if it was cool to use my regular CP recipe. Which, once I think about it, it sounds like a pretty dumb question but I'm asking anyway.
Crafty1_AJ
Yup, go for it.
TexasBrat
Just don't discount your water. Which way you doing it? oven or crockpot?
Grumpy Girl
Definitely crockpot. I have no interest in oven process other than tossing the mold in when I cp.
OutlandishLady
I've been wanting to try this, is there a good online tutorial anywhere?Sorry for the hijack Grumpy Idiot Alert.... never mind, don't know why I didn't search first.
Grumpy Girl
You're not hijacking girl. This is the one I'm going to be using. http://www.candletech.com/hpsoap/We SAPS have to stick together.

OutlandishLady
That's the one I found too. I am soap deprived (and brain deficient) this week due to all the fun I'm having contemplating the mass murder of medical insurance employees.I found a super nice crock pot with the removable crock at a garage sale, woo hoo $.50. Now I can save my good one for actual cooking..... My recipe is ready, my FO is chosen, now I just need the time (and 'Pod of course). Grumpy Girl
I'm still trying to decide on a FO... I don't want to mess with swirling, seems too damn difficult with HP. Of course I'm sure I'm wrong.
Crafty1_AJ
Actually, my first swirl in hp went surprisingly well. Just be sure to add 1 TBL. sugar to your water, stir to dissolve, then add lye. The sugar in the water makes the HP batter so much more fluid and "pourable" and "swirlable" at the end.
Grumpy Girl
Looks great. The sugar is a given, but for different reasons. Nice to know it helps in other ways too. I'm fighting off a migrane, so hopefully I'll feel like doing this tonight.
TexasBrat
Did you make it? On the fo I make sure to choose oils with a high flash point otherwise the scent gets killed or changes. The sugar in the water makes the HP batter so much more fluid and "pourable" and "swirlable" at the end. Yours is pourable? I keep cooking mine till it gets to a stage that is sorta gloppy and it sorta gets gel like. Your swirls are beautiful!!! What kind of mold did you use? Crafty1_AJ
I add the scent at the end, after the cook -- just before molding. So it doesn't morph that way. Thanks! Well it's not as fluid and pourable as CP, for sure! But I just meant the sugar helps make it less blobby and smoother-textured at molding time.I can't remember which mold I used for those batches ... either my Upland slab or a Rubbermaid drawer divider. Crafty1_AJ
Gee, I wonder which one it is? coughcoughLLCcoughcough ... ahem! Excuse me! Coughing fit there!
Grumpy Girl
I have a FO in mind!!!!Nah, that one went into CP within hours of it getting delivered. I won't experiment with that one in a new recipe. My migraine kept me from playing last night, if I can get the groggy feeling from the meds worked out, I'll shoot for trying this today. TexasBrat
Grumpy, I've used LLC twice in cphp and it's great.
Grumpy Girl
I know! I got your LLC from the swap, and that's the only reason I CP'ed it. But knowing my luck having never tried HP before, I'd lose about 3oz. of LLC in a mess up.
TexasBrat
I get ya, that stuff is to valuable to lose.
Carol M
The LLC is great in HP, but be prepared for discoloration. I have read about this since then, but when I made mine (6 weeks or so ago), I hadn't read that yet, so wasn't expecting it (didn't really smell "vanilla-y" enough to me for that). Not a dark chocolate brown, but sort of a taupe color. I'll use the WSP vanilla stabilizer in my next batch.
Sherie
Ohhhhhh Crikee, I haven't tried HP yet. I've been too chicken. Don't waste that absolutely awesome scent until you know it's gonna do good Sharon. Angelique......I got the Tahitian Tiare Flower in the swap. It smells great but I'm missing the LLC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.
