Soy and Soy blend Recommendations

Recommended Posts

:bump:

With all the chaos in wax pricing I am bumping this sticky up . . .

Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use? Southern Scentsations Container Parasoy

Additives if any? 1/2 tsp Coconut Oil per pound

Preferred dyes? Liquid or blocks work equally well

Preferred wick (Not sizes)? zinc

Pouring temp you recommend? 145* - 150*

What you do to prevent frosting? Frosting not an issue

What you do to prevent rough tops? Rough tops not an issue

Do you do anything to prevent wet spots? Wet spots are minimal, coconut oil helps

I'm in the testing phase again but will post what I've been using.

Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use?

-started with and still use EL 100% container soy wax and have experimented mixing it with palm

-Ecosoya CB Advanced and have mixed in EL with great results and also tried palm with good results as well

Additives if any?

I tried coconut oil once and want to try it again but for me 1/2 TBSP per pound was too much and I tried it with the EL soy.

Preferred dyes?

-use wax coloured blocks from a Canadian supplier

Preferred wick (Not sizes)?

-started off with RRD47 for tins and LX for tealights

-now I use LX, HTP and have been experimenting with square braid #3 and 44-24-18C for bigger sized containers

Pouring temp you recommend?

-for CB Advanced I use between 130-140

-for EL I use between 105-115

What you do to prevent frosting?

-no issues with CB Advanced

-when I do get it with EL I use a heatgun but customers don't seem to mind it

What you do to prevent rough tops?

-no issues with CB

-only get it with EL if I pour too hot and use heatgun to fix it

Do you do anything to prevent wet spots?

this hasn't been a problem for me at all

Hello Everyone! I am **brand** new here, first post, and have only made 4 candles to date (two pillars - not soy, and two 16 oz containers - both soy). For the purpose of this thread, I will give the results I had with my two Soy container candles.

Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use?

GW-444 (98% Soy / 2% Soy-Based Additive)

Additives if any?

None other than my FOs and color.

Preferred dyes?

So far, have only used Peak's dyes; one was a chip the other was liquid.

Preferred wick (Not sizes)?

For the soy, I have only used RRD. (Have not burned them yet, just made yesterday!)

Pouring temp you recommend?

I poured both of these at 135* F.

What you do to prevent frosting?

I did not have any frosting on either candle.

What you do to prevent rough tops?

I did have tops that looked "lumpy" on one, and the other cracked a little and was also "lumpy". I used a heat gun on both, and seemed to smooth out okay.

Do you do anything to prevent wet spots?

So far I have not seen any wet spots on these two candles. I did not heat my containers, just wicked and poured.

Thanks for this thread!! And this site!! :D

Newbie and still testing, but will share:

Additives if any? none

Preferred dyes? dye chips, but have used liquid

Preferred wick (Not sizes)? Eco is my fav, or CSN

Pouring temp you recommend? 100* slushy

What you do to prevent frosting? :( working on it, pouring cool helps most of the time.

What you do to prevent rough tops? still working on the best for my conditions, usually nice with low pour temp.

Do you do anything to prevent wet spots? usually not a problem, make sure container is clean (don't touch inside with fingers), and love them if they show up!

Hi Guys

I would like your help here. I am going to try to put a soy data base together. If any of you are willing? This is information I would like to collect first. Even if someone has given the same answer for the same kind of wax please answer with your information also. I want as many opinions as possible.

Additives if any?

Preferred dyes?

Preferred wick (Not sizes)?

Pouring temp you recommend?

What you do to prevent frosting?

What you do to prevent rough tops?

Do you do anything to prevent wet spots?

I want to put something together in the Tips and FAQ Database and Archive everyone that helps will have their names listed at the bottom of the data base. Credit will be give where credit is due.

We have been making both container and pillars out of the same wax, but the mix for additives is different, so:

Containers:

Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use? Golden Brands GW444

Additives if any? N/A

Preferred dyes? Candle Science Liquid

Preferred wick (Not sizes)? LX

Pouring temp you recommend? Pour at 140* into heated containers

What you do to prevent frosting? Nothing

What you do to prevent rough tops? Heatgun the top 1/4" and let recool slowly

Do you do anything to prevent wet spots? Dishwash containers same day we are pouring, and heat the containers with a heatgun before pouring.

For the Pillars

Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use? GW 444

Additives if any? We add 4 "teaspoons" (Wendy's chili spoon) per pound of Vybar 103

Preferred dyes? Candle Science liquid

Preferred wick (Not sizes)? LX

Pouring temp you recommend? Heat the metal containers to VERY hot with a heatgun, and pour at 160*

What you do to prevent frosting? Heat the containers, cool covered

What you do to prevent rough tops? Our pillars are poured upside down (gives beautiful looking pillar), so we don't have rough tops, rather rough bottoms. I just heatgun them out.

Do you do anything to prevent wet spots? No because it's not into a container
