chantrel
I have created a body cream that is a fine texture. But then when you apply it you begin to rub it in, it begins smooth but then once absorbed I guess a residue is left and begins to ball up! Is there anything I can do to fix it?. Or should I just start over with less cornstarch?
NightLight
I would not use cornstarch at all! It will do that. What are you trying to accomplish? If you want a smooth dry feeling you would add IPM, or Cyclomethicone.
TallTayl
The balling up is called “pilling”. I would either aim for more dry feeling oils and butters, or use an ingredient that evaporates quickly like IPM or even BTMS (which leaves a powdery feeling behind). Anhydrous silica is often used in powder to cream formulas to prevent the pilling in very low %. I’ve seen old recipes and formulations for anhydrous body butters that use starch and never understood how it would give a desired result.
