HTP Wick Sizing - Is this weird?

A few weeks ago I made test candles with a new fragrance.  I used three different HTP wick sizes: 83, 93, and 104.  After the first two or three burns the 83 actually seemed to catch up better than the 104.  Since the 104 is larger and should burn hotter, I'm curious if anyone knows why that would be.  At first I was worried the 104 would tunnel.  After subsequent burns, the 104 caught up just fine and ultimately has more wax left than the 83 and 93 when I did a longer burn test (Initial 6 tests were 2-3 hours each, and yesterday I did a burn test of about 6 hours - the 104 had caught up prior to yesterday).  However, in selling candles, customers won't always burn 3-4 hours, so I will ultimately go with the 93, which will have a longer burn time than the 83 but still catches up nicely.  I guess, I'm just confused on why the larger wick didn't catch up as quickly as the smaller one.  I did test in another scent and the same thing happened.
