How to hard Clay Cleanser Bars

I am trying to make a cleanser bar with surfactants so I can create a ph of 5.4-5.6 and I am using clay. How do I make my bars hard enough to hold a rope to make "rope soap"?

I would try adding stearic acid, with clay and surfactants. But you will have to test as too much stearic gets draggy on skin, and cut the lather

A lot depends on the formula you are working with.  I lean toward fatty alcohols, such as Cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol or Cetearyl alcohol (a retail available blend of cetyl and stearyl at 70:30 or 30:70) personally.  
 

if you have ingredients that absorb moisture, such as botanicals, oats, etc, you will be fighting an ongoing battle.
