sarahmarah
I can not wick C3 to save my life. This was a test candle I made 2 weeks ago in a 16oz straight sided jar, 6% FL, HTP 105 inserts in. It started as a proportionally beautiful controlled flame and then turned into a carbon behemoth. Throw is good—maybe a bit more subtle than I’m shooting for though I think that will change as the jar starts generating more heat. In the picture below has been burning about 4 hours—I didn’t exactly time it...(accidentally dozed 😬) Should I wick down you think? I haven’t had much luck with HTP’s so far... NightLight
I am working with C3 as challenge. Htp will do that a 4 hours and depending on fo, and CDs. Try eco.
birdcharm
I tested HTP104 in a container 3" across, but the mushrooming seemed to be worse than yours, so don't feel bad! In other containers, I've used square braid w/o any mushrooming. I'm going to order some RRD40s & 47s. (I don't have any experience w/ Ecos and all the CDs I've seen aren't sold by the yard, so I haven't bought any.)
TallTayl
I leaned toward cd in C3. Sometimes eco. Sometimes cotton core. All depends on the FO and container.

Doesn't anyone sell CD wicking by the yard? I've only seen it for sale pre-tabbed. ~~ For those unfamiliar: "RRD are a round braided cotton cored wick treated with a special NST2 treatment designed to burn better in vegetable waxes. These wicks are able to consume viscous materials without clogging or drowning." BusyBee
By the look of your melted wax, I think you are going to need little bit of more of fire power. ECO should be little bit hotter wick. Your candle is only a tester, and it looks better than this. This one is final product.
CandleRush
That’s one of those higher end bougie candles!

sarahmarah
Thanks everyone—I’m due for another wick order soon and will be grabbing a few more sample options to test.
kandlekrazy
I like the round cotton core wicks with C3, the self-trimming will work as well if you twist the wick. HTP's I always got huge mushrooms except in tins they did ok, probably because I'd wick down in tins.

Thank you, I'll check that out further, I thought I'd already checked there and that they only offered full spools, I'll look again!
