Darbla
Or does wax add some chemistry that helps the FO smell and perform better than when it's with water only?
kandlekrazy
I don't know about chemistry but fo is an oil so doesn't mix with water. I always used a carrier oil or wax. Carrier oil could be fractionated coconut since it has no scent and can tolerate the heat of a warmer.
TallTayl
Water evaporates off leaving the fragrance oil to scorch and crust in the warmer.
Darbla
I've been experimenting since posing that question: water + FO resulted in a Play Dough type note to the scent after just a couple of days, but wax + FO did not. The wax + FO is still reasonably good after almost a week, though it is of course weak now and I've added a few more drops to the wax. I used the same FO in both. Mother4Jesus
This is an old post but I use FO with DPG right in my warmers. Works well. I don’t like having wax because it’s easier to make a mess if the kids hit it. The DPG is good because its an emulsifier and make the FO Last a little longer and if it does spill, easier to clean up.
