jasondigitized Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I am thinking of getting a turkey fryer so I can pour big jobs. I am assuming most people only melt wax in their prestos / fryers and pour and measure into melting pots to then add fragrance / dye. After you are done finishing a big job, do you just leave the remaining wax in the presto / fryer and top up / reheat at a later date? Is it ok to reheat wax multiple times? It seems like it would be a pain in the but to clean a turkey fryer ever time I want to pour candles. Quote
franu61 Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I re heat the wax. Just wax in the presto. Color and scent in the pour pots Occasionally I will use up the wax in the presto and wipe it out with a paper towel before adding fresh wax. But for the most part no cleaning. Quote
Jcandleattic Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I do the same as franu61 - if the presto becomes empty, I wipe with a paper towel, otherwise I just keep adding wax. Quote
kandlekrazy Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 In the turkey fryer it's a little more difficult but I do clean it periodically. You have to remove the heating element and wipe the pot clean. Sometimes tiny pieces of paper or cardboard seem to get into the wax so when that happens I clean it, otherwise I just add more wax and keep going. 1 Quote
Scented Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 In the presto I'm using wax, additives and fragrance. Once I'm done with the scent, I wipe it out and use a wet wipe to catch the rest. I color in clear cups, but sometimes the remaining wax that won't make but a few votives will get colored. The wet wipe helps to remove the fragrance and any color stains. Quote

Same here.......it's rare that I pour 8 pounds of the same scented wax so I just melt the basic wax, add my stearic to it and then scoop out what I need to work with into a pour pot and go from there............so anytime I want to make a candle or two, I heat up the presto, scoop out what I need and work with the pour pot. If, on rare occasions, I need to pour 8 lbs of the same scent then I do all the mixing in the presto pot and when I'm finished, I simply wipe it out with paper towels.........no major cleaning needed.
