Mnhorsemom Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Well I have been wanting to try goatsmilk soap and this weekend it the time. I have powdered goatsmilk. Which do all you soapers prefer... to mix the powder with your water and mix with the lye or add the powder at a light trace? I have some OMH fo from BNL that I plan to scent this with and I am also thinking about adding some ground oatmeal. My mold holds a 5 pound batch so that is the size I plan to make if I add oatmeal too how much should I use? TIA Quote
Sherie Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 I have done it 3 different ways. The first time, I mixed my powder and water and froze it. Then added the lye to my frozen mixture. Let me tell you, the stuff stinks to high heaven like ammonia and it turns a funky orange color. So, the next time, I tried it where I added it to thin trace. It turned out nice. The third time, I tried something totally different and I really like how it worked for me. I used the water amount that I'd need for dilution (which was the amount of water I needed for that recipe per the soap calc) and added my lye to the water. I took my powdered goats milk and 1 cup of my oil mixture and blended it together. I added my lye/water mixture to my oil mixture and just zapped it with my stick blender to incorporate the lye/water. Then, I added the oil/powdered goats milk and stick blended and finished as usual. HTH Quote
