TartAddict Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hi all!I've got a ton of my container wax and started wondering if I could add a little stearic and use it for tarts? Any thoughts? I know it's way to soft by itself and I've been mixing it with my pillar wax. Do you think adding a little stearic would work to make it a bit harder? How much would you start with? Thanks so much!D Quote
TartAddict Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 Anyone? Anyone??? Bumpity Bump Quote
Fern Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 The only time I added stearic to container wax was when I used joy wax. I did it to make firm tarts. That wax is very soft and greasy and it took a ridiculous amount of stearic to get hard enough to make a tart. Can't remember exactly how much I used...but it was a lot. I wouldn't even bother with it if your container wax is extremely soft. If it's as firm as J223 then you can just start adding amounts to it until it gets to the consistancy that you are looking for. It's really too hard to gauge...but you'll figure it out through trial and error. Quote
DeeB Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I guess it depends how soft your wax is.I had some J50 that I had bought to play with and tried adding stearic to use it up in tarts, it released from the molds okay but it was still a bit sticky, it's winter here and my house is a bit on the cool side. They threw really well but from the feel of them, I think they would be a bit mushy in the summer and not real practical. I added 2 tbls. to 8 oz of the wax if I remember right. All you can do is maybe try a few and see how they work out. Quote
TartAddict Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 Thanks guys I figured I'd play around with it and see how they come out. Maybe I'll try the 2 Tbsp per 8oz and see how that works. I appreciate it! Quote
