Please help, still learning. But Im starting to understand more about making bath & body products. Question, I was reading Making Candles and Soaps for dummies and the term photosensitizing comes up with certain EO's. Can you tell what that means?

Also when making body butter, is there certain butters that makes it soft?

Here's what I found on a google search... (I know what it is, but now quite how to explain it!) Generally, avoid in b&b since the skin can react negatively to these eo's. HTH!

Yes, photosensitive means to be light-sensitive (especially to sunlight). As guppygirl listed, a lot of the photosensitizing EO's are in the citrus category. I know that when I use lotion that has any thing citrus type and go in the sun, I will burn more quickly and get a rash on top of it.

Oh, I just remembered one more thing... not sure about other eo's, but as far as bergamot goes, you'll find many reputable suppliers carry bergaptene free versions which allow it to be used in b&b without worry of photosensitivity.
