Clyde Texas just east of Abilene. Before I came here in 2003, I grew up and lived just outside Fort Smith Arkansas. How long have you been making candles/soap/whatever? 4-5 years How did you get started making candles/soap/whatever? I was tired of paying what I thought was too much for candles. LOL I've spent more money than my husband will ever know learning how to make them. Then I finally started reading the soap section and I'm hooked on soap. Candles not so much anymore. I do make them a couple of times a year now. Are you married? Any kids? Yes, third time ? A daughter 24 and son 21. If candle/Soap making isn't your primary job, what do you do? You do not have to be a new member to introduce yourself. Well I had trouble figuring out how or where I even type here. Maybe this is correct. I'm Karla from Missouri. I'm 51, married with 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren. I am an Interior Decorator trying to retire and am in the process of starting my scented melt business. I'm in the very beginning with my website being built, LLC and tax license being handled and testing, testing and more testing of my product. I have learned so much but have much more to learn. I am looking for a place where I can learn, share and discuss scents, companies and even recipes on blending unique scents. I started this business for 2 reasons. I'm TIRED! of moving furniture, climbing up and down ladders. I love what I do but its becoming physically hard on me. And 2, I have always loved my home to smell good. The changing of the seasons or to greet my guests. From back when dry potpourri was "in", then the liquid oil in warmers was '"in", candles ( which I still love and use) to wax melts. My supplier I bought from for years quit. And I decided to do it myself so here I am! Look forward to learning from everyone and hopefully able to share with others.

Laurie66
What's your name? Laurie How old are you? 50 Where do you live? North Dakota, but born in Pittsburgh, PA How long have you been making candles/soap/whatever? I admit I am a newbie, and learning everyday! How did you get started making candles/soap/whatever? I wanted a new hobby. Are you married? Any kids?Yes, I married my best friend. All together 9 kids, last one home is 17, and 3 Grand babies. If candle/Soap making isn't your primary job, what do you do? Cook/Bake/ spend time with my grand babies, and still a mom to all the others. We all live pretty close to one another, which is nice. My youngest son lives one street over, which means if he goes in his back yard, and I go to my back yard, he could hand me his laundry! Thank god he won't see this, and get any ideas! He already comes over a few nights a week for dinner! haha. Anything else we should know? Lets see, I was adopted by my Aunt when I was 18 months old, I do not know who my Father is, and my Husband is also adopted and nor does he know who his Biological parents are either. But that's probably not what you wanted to know. So, We have been in the United States Navy for 21 years, and finally retired. When it was time to retire, we came here to North Dakota because of children. Being in the Military you get stationed every 3-4 years. We felt that if we moved here a year before he was to retire, then our children would finally have stability and at the same time, we would be able to see the Grand children. He finished his time in Somalia, fighting Pirates and finally came home here in ND to join all the kids and I. He now has since started his second career and I have been able to take care of the family. Now that most are gone, I find myself a little stir crazy, because we live in a population of 1900 people, and the nearest wal-mart or shopping center is 74 miles one way. Big difference from growing up in PA, or other States we were stationed. Hope all those details about me, helps get to know me a little bit. Oh....did I mention I have 4 dogs? Cant forget them. Although one of them is my Son's, yeah the one who lives behind me, he wanted me to babysit him last April for the weekend, its now almost a year later and I still have him! :0) Thanks for welcoming me in everyone, and I hope to learn a bunch and maybe one day help another! <3

CheriB
Hi all - I am an old newbie. I was active on this board years ago and just got out of the habit of coming here. Janel may remember me. We did a lot of chatting in those days. I am still making candles - live in OK out in the country. I do wholesale and 4 large weekend shows each year, 2 state fairs and a couple random shows if the location is interesting. The rest of the time I am prepping for those shows. I have worked from home garage for a few years, leased a warehouse for 7 years, got divorced and have found the love of my life. Am currently renovating our garage, waiting for a paint job, new door and the AC installed before I move into it but home will be very convenient as I have been driving 30 minutes every day I work. I use almost all the suppliers and stock 75+ scents for melts and about 50 for jars.
