hawaiiansun Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Someone told me that I could use eo in my lip balm is this so?? Won't it tingle or sting? Quote
Spellkast Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 The only one I use is peppermint (so I can't speak for ALL EO's) but that one works just fine. I LOVE it, and you only need a real little bit. It doesn't taste like anything, but smells nice and has never stung me or tingled. But I don't get really chapped lips, so have never tried it on open cuts. My cousin loves it, too, and her lips get REALLY chapped sometimes- so I'm assuming it doesn't sting her...unless she thinks that means it's "really working" I also mix Peppermint EO with my fudge flavor to make chocolate mint chip, and people love it. Hope that helps a little...which EO's were you looking to use? Quote
sudsnwicks Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 The skin safe EOs can be used in small amounts (say 1 %) in lip balms. However there aren't that many that would feel right in a lip balm e.g. I would not want to use a lavender lip balm as the idea just seems weird. The only EOs I have tried in lip balm are peppermint and tea tree. The latter is popular among those with chapped lips. Quote
hawaiiansun Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 thanks spell I have peppermint and spearment about how much would you use in this recipe? 1 oz beeswax .5 shea butter .5 kokum butter 1 oz sao about 5 drops? Quote
Spellkast Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Probably only about 1 mL...so 5 drops seems right. Have you tried that recipe before? Seems like it'd be a pretty hard balm. Lemme know how it turns out! Quote
hawaiiansun Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 no I haven't lol I found it on a site but I have other oils or butter I could sub Quote
Spellkast Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 I've made so many lip balms...uch, so much wasted money...and I've found the ones that glide on the smoothest are the ones that are 1 part beeswax, 2 parts butters or hard oils and 2 parts oil. Ones that had equal (or close to) parts of beeswax, butters and oil were kind of hard. But try it out. That's a small enough recipe not to really have wasted much....lemme know if it's any good!!! hawaiiansun Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 I'll try both ways and let you know which feels better. This will be my 1st time so I'll experiment thanks for help Quote

TexasBrat Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 The first time I ordered from Between Friends they gave me lavender eo with my lip balm order. Quote
RobinInOR Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Lavender makes a *great* lip balm. For those that like lavender lol...Careful with some of the citrus EOs, they can be photosensitizing and that's not something you'd want to have on your lips, so use a light hand.Lemongrass EO used at I think it was .1% (so your base wt * .001) is supposedly more "healing" than tea tree.
