quietgirl2004 Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 I tried a new batch of soap and tried using kokum butter. Ive never had a worse batch. It thicken up so bad. Feels great but ugly as sin. How can I remelt this or isnt it possible? Its gonna need thinned down. Anybody? Quote
Bunny Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 How much kokum did you add? For butters, unless I'm doing a speciality bar, I never go over 5%, more is waste. Grate it down, toss it in a glass bowl, spray the edges with water and toss it in the micro until melted, stirring every 30 seconds. Add a touch more scent, and cram it back in the mold. HTH Quote
Bunny Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Forgot to add, Kokum in my bars makes the best soap I've personally made. Would you post or PM the rest of your recipe so we can see what is going on? Quote
quietgirl2004 Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 This is what I tried:Lard 30%Palm Kernal Flakes 10%Shea 5%Kokum 5%Olive 20%Safflower 10%Wheat Germ oil 10%Avacado 10%Half my water I used coconut milk Quote
Bunny Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Canned coconut milk or powdered reconstituted coconut milk...Every single time I used the canned, my batches either seperated or went funky. So I save my canned coconut milk for rebatching to use instead of water. Go look at the can, does it have guar gum in it? Theres that and one other ingredient that I simply cannot remember that seem to be the culprit. Quote
quietgirl2004 Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 Ive always used the canned and never had a problem. Quote
quietgirl2004 Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 I'd like to get this to the pourable stage! LOL Quote
Bunny Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Even within the same brands, right next to each other on the shelf, one can will have it and the next can won't. Kinda weird. Was this a new fo? How much of a water discount? Quote
quietgirl2004 Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 FO was Water Blossom Ivy(Ive soaped before no problems) and no water discount. 7% superfatted Quote
Bunny Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 I'm stumped then.. Only thing I can see is you got a guar gum coconut milk. I'll be watching to see what other soapers have to say about this batch. Quote
Nanasnecessities Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Grate it and put it in your crock pot (get at goodwill) pour in 2 cups of water. This is for a full crock pot regular sized.melt on low for a few hours, scoopy out and remold. DO NOT clean your crock pot. Refill it wilh water. (no more than cups) leave over night. I use this slimey stuff for laundry and shower gel. Just for my personal use of cours, but it works great. Quote
quietgirl2004 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 Well I tried it.:embarasse My trash sure smells awful purty Quote
Brenda Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Sorry you weren't able to save the batch. :embarasse I feel your pain. I tried to save a batch once in the same manner. My trash smelled great too - full of that great gooey soap blob! It's hard to throw it away. Quote
