Hi everyone, this is my first post but I've been learning a ton on here so far! I am new to making candles in the past few months. I started with just 464 in 8oz straight sided jelly jars but I could not get a hot throw at all. I cured my candles for 2 weeks and used ECO wicks. I have switched over to a 50/50 blend of 464 and IGI 4630 and that has been a lot better with the hot throw, but now I'm having trouble with finding the right wick. Candlescience recommended an ECO 2 but that seemed too small. I have tried ECO 4, 6, and now 8. They all seem to leave some wax on one side. The 8 also has a pretty big flame. Any suggestions for the best wicks for this wax blend in 8oz and 4oz jelly jars? Also how long do you usually cure parasoy? I've been doing 48 hours minimum but wondering if I need to do longer. Thanks so much for any advice!!
I recently switched from GB 464 to IGI 4630. I LOVE this wax, however I'm having a terrible time finding the right wick. I did a test burn of 6 different wicks yesterday (single wicks tested- Lx 21, Lx 22, Lx24, Lx26. Double wicks tested- Lx 12 and Lx 14) and out of those 6 only 2 came even remotely close to checking off all my boxes. Both of the double wick candles did pretty good. There was a little mushrooming and a small amout of soot coming off the wick for the first minute or two it was lit, but it had a great melt pool and the flame wasnt dancing around. I went to bed satisfied yesterday. Today I relit the LX 14, double wicked candle and it seems to be burning differently, almost like it's trying to put its self out. Is their anyone who can help me? I'm open to any and all advice.
How long should I allow 4627 and 4630 (separately) to cure for before I light them? What are the optimal temps to add fragrance and pour that you have found? What little tips/tricks do you have for working with these? Do any of you only use one of these waxes for container candles and love it? Also, I am thinking of mixing one of these with 464 to make a parasoy blend. What one would you recommend I do this with? I'm thinking of 70% paraffin and 30% 464 to start. Also, based on the paraffin that you recommend for the mix, what would the temps be to add fragrance, to pour, and the cure time for the blend? I love the way that 464 looks and burns, however, I am not getting a good hot throw. I have read that it can be a variety of variables, but I would like to add a paraffin to see if this improves it. I have 8 oz tins, with a 3" diameter, and I have htp, zinc, and eco wicks that I can use. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and give me your advice. I have already spent more money on this new hobby than I should have!
Just a question about wicking. I have already made some candles with 4630 wax and 44-24-18 Zinc Core in the Dodecagon jars and it seemed to be ok. Everybody loves them. I have any complaints but I havent really tested anything else. Anybody else use this wax in these jars? What wick have you found that work? Also, I recently made some candles with 4786 wax with the same wick in the same jars and it wasnt too successful with the HT (I also mentioned this in another thread). I went ahead and ordered wicks from CS as per their wick guide. They recommended the LX 18's. I just got the shipment in earlier today but havent had a chance to pour any yet. Just curious what wick you all have success with using this wax and jars. Thanks again. This forum is such a great place. Ive been reading on here for about a month or so but just recently started posting. Thanks again!
