  1. Hi there! I’m lookin looking for a great pear FO that works great in soy wax. I’ve tried PEAKS Bartlett Pear in the past and while it’s good it takes awhile to get a medium HT from it. Anyone tried Filmore’s French Pear? I’ve seen that one.
  2. Hi. Does anyone know if 444 works for melts and whether it needs additives? Thank you for any advice ?
  3. Hello! I'm new to this forum, but have been reading (very helpful) posts since I began candlemaking last year. A little bit of backstory: up until a few months ago, I'd been using a blend of 464 and CB Advanced with amazing results. My FO load was 12% (high, I know!), my scent throw was great and I never had frosting. Now that CBA is no more, I feel miserable, but I've been testing out new combinations. Right now, I'm working with a combo of 464 and Q210. I've got a handle on my 8oz jar sizes, but I'm having a lot of trouble with my 2oz tins. No matter what temperature I pour, I'm getting a weird 'oily swirl' on top of them and terrible, terrible frosting (immediately, as soon as they set). I figured it had to do with the FO, so I lowered it to 9%, but I'm STILL having trouble. Maybe it's the wax itself? I guess the oily swirl wouldn't be so bad if I could just get the tops to stop frosting. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get them to stop frosting and get rid of that mysterious swirl or 'oil leech'? Thanks SO much!
  4. I received my order from American Soy last week. I ordered a 10 lb bag of Pillar/votive wax for wax melts and I also ordered several 2 oz FO's. One thing I noticed off the bat was that the wax pellets had a slight smell while melting. I noticed it more as it was melting than once fully melted another was it dries shiny. Also the CT was ok but Ive gotten much better CT from 464 or a blend of waxes Ive used for wax melts. Ive used other pillar waxes and I don't recall them being shiny ? Does anyone here use American Soy, what do you think of this wax or any of they're waxes ( Millennium or Container wax ) My absolute favorite FO's I received were - Lemon Cheesecake - this is the first cheesecake FO that I can actually smell the graham cracker crust. It smells delicious. Oatmeal Cookie is good too, to my nose smells sorta like RE Grandmas Cupboard Orange - Also very good, it smells like fresh squeezed OJ + that natural sweet scent the OJ has . Firewood - Its not bad but its not what I was expecting either. It doesn't have that burning log smell. I believe its a HB Type. Its a tad cologne -y IMO but not too bad but I think I prefer ones that smell more like actual fire logs. Bourbon Pumpkin Cake - I don't get much cake but I do smell the bourbon + a little pumpkin. I didn't get much of a CT from this one Eucalyptus Lavender - Not sure what I was expecting but I don't get much lavender + the euc is not anything thing euc EO - at all . This is more of a relaxing type scent . I was planning on mixing some of the orange with the euc/lavender so I'll see how it turns out. @Trappeur you mentioned Candle Soylutions has a great Lemon cheesecake Its a EL FO so I believe its the same one I have from American Soy since they sell EL FO + Millennium wax. If anyone uses their Millennium or container wax do they also dry shiny and any issues with CT ? The packing was stellar and shipped super fast
  5. Anyone use a good raspberry. Most strawberries Ive tried smells very artificial to me so Im wondering if the same will be true for raspberry . On a side note I just received my WSP order, the only one I didn't care for was Coconut Rum Cake, its a 4 oz bottle. I paid $9.95 . If anyones interested, please let me know.I hope it was ok for me to mention that in this post. Im not really sure how that works. If I did please just let me know so I don't do it again in the future.
  6. Im on the fence about Fillmore's Cedar Garland and want to take a poll to see if more of you dislike or like it. Obviously its for Christmas and the container is a vintage pewter like mug with a handle. If your not a fan can you please add your favorite Christmas FO. Thank you
  7. Ive never ordered anything from them and @pcbrook got me curious on their room spray base . While I'm at it I thought I might order some oils as well. Anyone ordered from there. I hate that theres no descriptions at all, I don't understand that. I was looking at Lemon Cupcake - Blackberry Jam - Oatmeal Cookie. Anyone have any favorites from them ? They also have a big selection of oils on Special that are 9.99 LB. Im not sure if that means they're not good movers or that they just got a great deal on those oils ? Pcbrook have you been happy with their base, do you recall what the FO load is, it doesn't tell me anything on the description
  8. I missed the recent RE sale and a few sound interesting. Did anyone order any of them ? Can you please share your opinions I need to place an order and wanted to add some of the new ones but unsure which ones to get larger bottles of.
  9. I'm very much a beginner when it comes to candle-making and I'm hoping of selling them on Etsy once I'm happy with them but I can't get past the wet spots in my candles despite their scent-throw being fab. I've tried nearly all day today to create a candle that doesn't have any wet spots and for the life of me I can't and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've made sure my containers are super clean, I've tried pouring at lower temperatures, higher temperatures, with less scent, I've even left them in different rooms to set and nothing seems to make an ounce of difference. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and these little patches are driving me crazy. Are these wet spots just a natural part of candle-making and completely unavoidable? Do your customers care or even notice? Any advice or hints and tips would be greatly appreciated. Love always xo
  10. I've been experimenting with 464 + CD wicks. Im on the fence with these wicks. First off, Im not getting the throw I want with the FO's Ive been testing with. Fillmore's Christmas tree I think will need more than 6%, so I have to retest it again at a higher fragrance load. The problem Im having with these wicks is they burn SO hot. For example, my one test candle was burning well as far as flame size goes + burn pool but getting no HT. However, on my second burn that same wick was way too hot for the last half of candle. I think Id like to try the Premiere wicks and see what happens. For those of you that use Premiers what is a good starting point for containers that are 3" in diameter ? What about double wicking - how do you figure that out with Premieres ? Im just looking for basic guide lines. How do the Premieres burn, are they as hot as the CD's. On a side note, the 2 pines Ive tested / Fillmore Xmas tree + WSP Frasier Fir - I have to say I prefer the WSP Frasier fir. But both have an awesome CT in 464. Are additives ever added to 464 to help with HT ? Another question I have is, Has anyone mixed palm wax with soy. I recently bought a candle with this combo, it was awesome - great HT ... I buy a lot off of Etsy - mainly because I like to support small business + I just love handmade anything ! I'm really impressed with the candles I order from Etsy, In all fairness I only order from about 3 companies. If you use 464 Im looking forward to hearing what suggestions you might have for me + if you think adding more than 6% FO would help - I really so think it would ( IDK?) Thanks everyone
  11. I just received a email/newsletter from Bittercreek stating that ECO Soy wax is being reformulated + I believe they said manufactured else where ??? It included all of the Eco soy - 135 - excel etc . Has anyone else heard this ?
  12. I made a test batch of some wax melts and I am in love ! I decided to try some of the Eco Pillar blend mixed with some beeswax I had forgotten about. I resisted the temptation of putting in some paraffin + the FO i used was Backwoods Lemon Creampuff - OMG it smells absolutely delicious. Ill test them in my burner in about a week + repost what I think about the HT. I read somewhere that adding beeswax to a blend helps tremendously, so we shall see. On a side note the beeswax pellets was a sample bad from WSP and the weight on the bag read 2 oz - well, when I added it to my pot thats not what my scale read. It weighed 1.1 oz - thats 50% less that the advertised weight . Am I doing something wrong. It didn't cost much but geez I feel jipped. To me it looks as the weight included the bag - I didn't think that was allowed ??? Anyways, Im hoping for a great HT - just love the scent of this oil + in the wax. Its somewhat similar to Fillmore Lemon Biscotti but sorta different. I also got the Pumpkin Cornbread - its just not me but it is a nice FO so I'll probably put that up for sale - I have 8 ounces of it. I wish I bought a pound of the Lemon Creampuff instead of 2 8 oz bottles of Honeyed Gingerbread + the cornbread I also tested WSP Frasier Fir in a room spray .... so, so good + lasted for quite a bit of time once sprayed in the room. I used WSP spray base but Im going to try the room spray base from Elements since Ill be placing an order for their Citrus Balsam.
  13. So I got my RE order today + it was a bit overwhelming. I had to get some coffee beans in a small cup to sniff in-between smelling bottles or they all just start to smell the same. My first impression when opening my box was a bit surprising. All of my FO's were loosely thrown in a zip bag - along with some of the bigger bottles I ordered. I wasn't impressed with that. Plus they put a wrong FO in - I choose Amish Harvest and they put in Apple Harvest ...rrrrr Maybe someone can answer this question : the Cranberry FO (LW) has a white sediment on the bottom ??? My absolute favorites are Grandmas Cupboard - YUM ! To me, smells like a delicious oatmeal cookie. I have Fillmores too but that one had apple in it too - it was ok but I prefer this Apples & Oats - Very nice but while back ago I made a blend of primarily BB OMH + CS Macintosh - SO good Main Street Christmas : This one only had 1 review but I like the description + the name lol ! Its not overly strong but very nice - subtle background of pine theres some apple + a touch of something sweet Homemade Apple Pie (KY) Smells good not overly cinnamon, which I like so Im hoping the crust comes through Rustic Lodge - Again, not overly strong OOB but very nice - i smell apple first but a light version Birthday Cake (KY) OOB smells very good but to me not overly strong ? hmmm Ive always read its super strong so hopefully it is. I ordered a bigger bottle. Toasted Marshmallow - I don't get any "toasted" at all OOB - this is another one that gets rave reviews but doesn't seem strong ??? I somehow thought it would be a bit richer - Im sure it'll be great though. Its very yummy OOB can't wait to try it - I think I might like to try another one though. I have ICS toasted marshmallow, it too is very good but missing something to my nose - maybe depth or some richness ??? Apple Pumpkin Strudel : OOB I get more apple than pumpkin but smells very good but I might prefer ICS better , I'll see - I got a bigger bottle of this too Lemon Curd - I love lemon scents - this kinda reminds me of Peaks Lemon pound cake but different ?? IDK its though * Bonfire bliss : Not sure what I was expecting but I honestly don't get a bonfire smell in the least - weird - Im sure it'll change in wax ?? Its nice though OOB Sea Kelp ; Nice clean - ocean -y scent - Blue Skies - Nice - I like this one - its different but good Oak Barrel Cider - Smells Good OOB Forbidden Fruit IDK it was described as Pomegranate but its OK - Ill stick with CS - much better although its a bit sweet too - I like it better - not a fan of this one /just OK Plumberry Spice - Very nice - fruit with some pine Salty Sea Air - Very nice OOB Welcome Home - I like this , not sure how to describe it but its warm + comforting Lavender Vanilla KY - OOB I dont care for it I like Lebermuth sample I received MUCH better Apple Clove Butter - Nice but OOB not my favorite - maybe its the clove IDK ?? Pumpkin cheesecake - looks like a thick oil + is a reddish color ? OOB nice but we'll see - I wanna try ICS too Pumpkin Pie Spice : This one + the pumpkin pie (KY ) smell off to me the spice one is weak which is weird for a pumpkin spice - I wonder if some bottles were poured as needed due to the sale ??? I was surprised with these 2 - something seems off Pumpkin Bread : Smells very good OOB Banana Walnut Cake - Very Good OOB I get the banana -walnut + cake Apple Clove Butter - OOB to my nose was nice but IDK maybe again its the clove . Im sure it'll be great in was melts Warm Vanilla Nutmeg - Nice but doesn't seem very strong OOB ???? Maybe that will change in wax I received 3 free samples - Flannel Sheets - nice smells like dryer sheets to me - Whipped cream - I like this one - light but very nice I picked that one as a mixer for pumpkin pie mixes and I picked red currant - nice bit I prefer Peaks I also ordered a 5# sample bag of KY Para Soy Tart + Votive - I love how its in beads - it had great reviews here + on RE Now I have a headache from smelling all of these LOL ! Cant wait to hear what all of you got + your reviews
  14. Hello everyone Ive never ordered from Natures Garden before and Im starting to order some FO for fall/Christmas to try. Pumpkin Crunch Cake has good reviews any of your opinions would be greatly appreciated on that one or any other NG FO you just love. Im also trying the NG Pink Sugar , I usually get it from ICS, but noticed that it varies from batch - batch. In all fairness, she does mention that in her description, says it varies due to complexity of the FO ? Rustic Essentials has MANY great sounding ones too that Im ordering, anyone used the pumpkin cheesecake. If the FO at Essentials are as good as they sound, they might be a good supplier. But the shipping is HIGH so Id only order when i need to stock up Man this summer is flying by Thanks again !
  15. I'm having a bit of trouble single wicking this jar. It's an 11oz Libby straight sided tumbler jar with a diameter of 3.125in. Im use 464 wax and a CD16 wick. I was using a CD14 and always had quite a bit of residue on one side of the jar. This is the 3rd burn and I can't seem to get it clean on the sides. Should I keep going and eventually it will catch up or do I need to wick up? Thanks for any help or advice. I've posted pics below. PS- This test has been going since 10:17am and its 12:35pm now.
  16. I know this goes against everything we have been instructed to do...but has anyone tried adding the FO to the wax BEFORE it is heated? Why couldn't the wax be "infused" with the FO (just mixed together and sitting a little at room temp) and then you pour the mix into a presto pot, let it heat to 185 and stir then pour at your 130 or your desired temp. I don't see why this would be a problem because the temp doesn't go high enough to burn off the FO and maybe you'd have a better chance of the wax really blending with the FO? Plus, it would make the whole candle making process a little bit easier. I imagine there is a problem with this, that I haven't considered? Thoughts anyone?
  17. First off, thank you to all who have posted about favorite suppliers + FO's ! I've never ordered from Filmore before and was so pleasantly surprised ! The packaging was superb - glass amber bottles that were bubble wrapped + packed with lots of peanuts + shipped within 1 day The iced lemon biscotti is fantastic, smells like a delicious lemon sugar cookie + the daffodil is so fresh ... I typically don't like heavy florals but this OOB is lovely Next time I think I'll try the Christmas tree - citrus spruce - mulberry bush - cocoa therapy - nutmeg ginger - coconut have any of you tried these ? Well, thanks again !
  18. Hello everyone : i have a question that might seem obvious to all of but I'm uncertain + hoping you can offer help. Im testing wax combinations (melts) & in the test few weeks will be testing candles + wicks. So my question is, can I do 1/2 pounds instead of full pounds so that I'm not wasting so much wax. If so, how does that work with the fragrance oil. say i have 1/2 lb of wax, would my weighed fragrance be 1/2 oz or a little over if i want it stronger . thank you in advance
  19. I am currently using natures garden pillar of bliss wax. I am trying to get rid of a ton of fragrance oils i had purchased from wholesales supplies plus and wanting to use them for wax melts. Was wondering what results any of you had using crafter's choice fo in parasoy or soy wax was.
  20. I'm still having big problems getting a decent hot throw with soy wax and I'm seriously considering switching to parasoy but I'm wondering if customers are OK with not pure soy in any big way? I mean, I realize a lot of people want pure soy, but are sales also healthy for parasoy? I have some new wicks coming (CDs) and maybe they will make the difference in hot throw but I'm beginning to think it's the atmosphere here in the CA high desert that's messing with the soy hot throw because I've been following advice from here that is working great for others and I can't still can't smell it in a med. bedroom until I'm about 2 feet away (burning for 1 hour). Other family members can't either. It's making me crazy! Would you recommend selling parasoy candles? Thanks! ?
  21. I am so tired of heating my status jars and I still have spots. I really really really want to not have to do this. Does anyone pour the soy wax into unheated jars. Please tell me you do and that they look beautiful. I am going to be making over 100 jars tomorrow and it is so time consuming to heat and then stick wick in heated jar. Help.
  22. Hi, I've had a devil of a time trying to find patchouli fragrance oil (for use with soy wax) that smells like I remember from the 60s & 70s. All the ones I've tried lack that extremely earthy scent. They smell simply like nag champa with a floral scent added. So frustrating! Has anyone else found a patchouli that they like? Thank you so much for any info
  23. I am trying to find local suppliers that I can support. I am will to travel in order to sample fragrance oils. Hope to hear from y'all.
  24. I also like to take pictures in different settings according to the theme of each candle, so that people get exited about it.

I also have this offer of 3 I think it's a good way to expose the public to the candles I'm selling. All the labels I designed using as inspiration designs found in the Caribbean, each candle has it's own concept name in Spanish, for the exotic feel.
