  1. That's awesome!! The kids were probably psyched to see someone doing something that doesn't require a video gaming back round. I mean it must be so foreign to them now a days.
  2. Well, I just tried C-1 for the first time. I'm a beginner, tried CBA & 6006 only, before this. I just made the C-1 candles Tuesday night and haven't lit them yet. But boy were they ugly after they cured. I used 4 10oz glasses, C-1, no dye, 10% FO and htp wicks. Heated the wax to 200, added FO@ 180, poured at 110 and at 150, put them in a warm oven to cure. The candles that I poured at 110 were CHUNKY at the surface. The one's that I poured at 150 were a little smoother, but not great, major sink holes. So far I hit them all with the heat gun every day for 3 days. And they still look like crap. I'm going to give it another go on Sunday. This time I'm going to pour hotter. And I do have photo's, just need to figure out how to upload them.
  3. I didn't get the black glass from GenWax, but got the silver Monticiano glass and they are GORGEOUS! My guess is that the black Monticiano glass is frosted. You can call and ask just to be sure.
  4. I just received this wax last night from GenWax. I originally was going to try the C-3, but when I asked the girl on the phone the difference between the two, she said the C-1 had coconut in it and was a 'higher end' wax. OK I'll give it a try, since I have yet to nail down a wax I want to stick with. They recommend htp wicks for the wax and jars I ordered(of course not the sizes I already have:angry2:) After I ordered I did some research here and google to see that not too many people liked this wax, Wonderful:rolleyes2. And I see that its soy mixed with palm, not coconut. Not a big deal, I have nothing against palm. Did they change it? Now I'm confused. To add to my state of confusion, I can not find instructions for this particular wax anywhere, and they didn't come with the wax. On the GW site it says to pour at 150, and then a link to their 'any type' of wax melting instructions: http://www.general-wax.com/candle-making/melting-wax.php They suggest cooking the wax for 30min:shocked2::shocked2: huh? And no mention of what temp to add FO. Anyone here have any suggestions for this wax? Should I heat to 190-200, add FO at 185 and pour at 150? :undecided
  5. Just picked up my Presto Pot from scam-Mart, and was reminded why I NEVER shop at that store here, it's never a good experience. The kmart website said it was $28.49. The tag on the shelf said it was $29.99. When they scanned it at the register it came up $37.99. I told them what the shelf price tag said and showed them the website price from my phone. And they said "oh our prices aren't the same as the website." Huh????? (I could have purchased it from the site for $28.49 and then picked it up, but I figured meh! I'll just walk over and get it off the shelf myself). Now the cash register I was at was 2 floors below the the appliance area, the store was boiling hot and a line of bitchy NY'rs was piling up behind me and I just wanted to get out. The manager said "I'll give it to you for $34.99". I really should have put up a fight, but they keep that store just so damn HOT. Anywho, I'm so happy I finally have my PP, even tho I got ripped off :/
  6. Hmmm good to know, I wonder if that's the same for all their vanilla based FO's? like Cedarwood Vanilla & Driftwood?
  7. Excellent! Thank you. Now I just have to convince the old man to study up on how to attach the spigot.
  8. Thanks Jeanie! The only one I can find that is close to my house is this one: http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_011W002423510000P#desc It looks like the same one. But is it? I'd rather be able to pick one up today than wait to have it shipped.
  9. Is this the right one? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Presto-Kitchen-Kettle-Multi-Cooker-Steamer/14321003 or this one? http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_011W002423510000P
  10. I LOVE the Delerium Suede & Smoke candle! Totally worth the $$$$$. I used to burn them in my salon and you could smell it all the way outside on the sidewalk. Wish I knew the wax/wick/FO combo for that one LOL. Alright I think I'm just going to go ahead and purchase the chrome glass containers. How come I can never find suppliers that have what I like in the north east?
  11. I'm looking to try black, smoked or chrome glass containers in the 10oz range. And the only place I can seem to find them are here: http://www.generalwax.com/glass-container-jars--lids---gift-boxes/glass-containers---jars/c___104.html And they seem awfully expensive unless you buy 50 cases:shocked2:. Does anyone know of a less expensive source for these containers? Thanks so much, julie
  12. I have tried them with CBA and they would just drown/burn out really fast. Then I doubled them up and they burned really hot with huge flames. And I had zero HT (surprise surprise). More money down the drain for me.
  13. OK, where to start, where to start? First of all thank you all for your kind replies. I have given up on CBA for now (not a good "starter" wax). I like the 6006, just wish it was more soy than paraffin, but if it works, it works. The C-3 was next on my hit list anyway, so glad to see people heavily recommending it. My last batch of 6006 I had one candle/ FO & wick combo that performed amazing for me out of the bunch. It was the WSP "crackling firewood" FO paired with the BitterCreek wood wick #2 doubled up, + a 6 day cure time. The container was a 3x3" vintage Ball jelly jar. Heated the wax to 195 added 1oz FO, stir stir stir, poured at 180, popped them into the oven to cool overnight. I also did a batch using CS "Mediteranian fig" same heating & pouring temps. Had success with the htp 104 & LX 22 nice burn, HT was pretty good. But a little too girly of a FO for my liking. Last week I did another batch using the same temps, but used CS driftwood and WSP Vanilla Oak. Can't recall the various wicks that I used (bad at keeping notes, I know I know!) I thought they all sucked HT wise but my coworkers said they could smell them. I think they were just being nice. Anywho, kind of bummed and intrigued at the same time that no one has used the House of Soy FO yet :/ Hmmmm, looks like another random FO gamble for me! Ugh, but there are like 50 of them that I am curious about. It's going to take a week of me just staring at their site for hours to pin down at least 5 FO's. Please keep your fingers crossed that they don't suck!!! Thanks again for all your input. This is a really nice group and I'm really excited to be here. Happy New Year Everybody!!!
  14. Thanks Beth. That might be hard since I don't have a solid method that works for me yet. But I can try and write something up later on tonight.
