  1. How about you become the candle maker. Make them yourself and cut out the middle man.
  2. Glass is the best embed material in my opinion. Paper based embeds release their color into gel over time and of course are highly flammable. Get on ebay and search for embeds. You will find wax for most of the fruit and glass for pretty much everything else. I've thrown lots of stuff into gel candles over the years, including spent bullets from an F-16 when i was a jet mechanic in the Air Force. Air bubbles will stick to anything, that's just the nature of the gel candle beast.
  3. Pour slowly and keep the spout of your melting pot as close to the top of the candle as you can. If you're worried about your wax embeds melting from the hot gel to reduce bubbles, try freezing your embed first. I haven't made candles in many years but Im pretty sure that the freeze the embeds method worked for me with my jelly jars.
  4. From me. I have a lot of Penreco's high density versagel for sale and it's a whole lot cheaper than the retail prices you're looking at on websites.
  5. When Candy was still married to her husband there in PA I went to their house to pick up an order of 100+ pounds. They had quite the set up in their barn.
  6. I live in a big 4-H Club area, lots of farmers out here and John Deere lovers.
  7. To suspend any object in gel make sure you are using the high density versagel. That's the most important thing. There are basically two techniques that you can use: The layer technique and the drop and hope. The layer technique is simply pouring your gel in layers, letting it solidify, placing your embed in, then pouring another layer. This works the best in regards to having your embed exactly where you want it, but the layers leave lines on the glass. A heat gun "sometimes" takes those lines out by applying heat to the outside of the candle after it has completely cooled. The other method that I have used is the drop and hope method, pour your container full of gel, immediately put it in the fridge to cool, then drop your embed in a short time later and hope that it sinks to just the right spot. This method can be refined by testing it out. In either method you do not want your gel so hot that it has become thin. Pouring gel at certain temperatures produces different thickness of the gel as you pour it. The temperature at which you pour and the speed in which you pour also has a effect on how many bubbles you get in the gel. When dealing with wax embeds I generally like to pour a cooler, thicker gel so that I do not have to worry about pulling the dye out of the embed and into my clear gel.
  8. Oh that, yeah I am used to that. I've been using forums online since the telnet days back in 1995. I'm quite used to the senseless fodder.
  9. Then I should start posting some videos on youtube or something to give these folks something look at!! Otherwise they are going to be bored in their searching.
  10. Time out, I want o hog all of the nastiness in this thread since I started it. So could we please direct all comments at my "junky" mandles and stuff. I know I'm being selfish but sometimes I just hate to share!
  11. If I let my hair grow out, I think by now I would be rockin' a Phil Collins type thing, But I've been shaving the whole head ever since I was 19. It was easier to maintain it that way while I was in the Air Force. I think i would rather be buying shampoo and conditioner versus disposable razors, I go through a lot of em'!
  12. Yes, I also love the big headed moon walker.
  13. No need to apologize, it's a forum, all views, thoughts and comments should be welcomed.
  14. In comparison to the age of people on here, that i suspect anyways, I would probably be considered a youngin', but I am bald!
  15. I'm guessing that you lack the talent to make an artistic piece. Yes of course seriously. Bless your heart....
  16. We are well aware of what the ignore button does Angelique. I think you need to read what i said a few more times, I have confidence that you will figure it out. And next time you use the term, "actually", as if you are correcting someone, you may want to make sure you are correcting them and not responding by misunderstanding. Makes you look kind of, well, bless your heart..
  17. I always had to be in the mood for it. Haven't been in the mood for it in years but I do like to see what other people come up with, just for the sake of looking at eye candy.
  18. The picture quality sucks. In the umbrella candle they aren't actually bubble. I pour the scented and dyed gel into a Tupperware container that rip apart little chunks. This leaves rigid edges that are clear and makes the gel look like ice chips when put into the candle. Then pour more hot gel into the candle to fill in the void space. Unfortunately adding the hot gel takes away a lot of the "ice chip" look. Some of these candles are ten years old. They don't deteriorate, they collect dust and the dye spreads through the gel into undyed gel after time.
  19. The point of telling someone that they have been ignored is?? Are you trying to get in the last word like a child? Is it supposed to be a dig? Do you know what this means............ Erica, Bless you're heart! lol
  20. There wasn't any trashing going on until you started out. And when did i ever give you permission to address me personally Erica? Kawboy888 is my handle on here. You posted a suggestion , i commented on your post. You didn't like my comments so the whining began. You do realize that people do not have to take another persons word as gold correct? You do realize that the point of these forums is to discuss things, offer opinions, debate issues.. correct? You are not nearly as Godly in candle making a you think, so your comments especially are going to be looked at closely and addressed. If you can't handle that without whining and crying CONSTANTLY about "personal attacks", then I don't know what to tell you. Grow some thicker skin. Freedom of speech trumps your know it all attitude every day of the week. I would hope that you don't leave the forum, I very much hope that you don't stop posting, (unlike you) I hope that you will mature a bit and understand not only the concept of forums, but how they work. Not everyone is going to be all flowers and roses to you and your precious little threads. Get over it princess.
  21. These are some old candles that I made several years ago. They are nothing special but gel candles don't seem to be represented too often in here so I thought I would try to breath some new life into the gel side.
  22. I have no idea. That was never mine. I sold the domain rights and i believe that I got just under 3k for each after the lawyer was paid. The new company then held preference on the bid every two years to renew their contract. This video came out a year or so after that.
  23. Congratulations on you being an aircraft mechanic? I left the field and found that environmental chemistry paid a lot more. No one is going to head out to an airport and try to find a sheet metal shop. You have to think realistically, flight lines require clearance, you may it, but the average candle maker does not. Common sense.... If you would like to be referred to as a man, how about you start acting like one. In regards to your request for me to leave this thread that is not yours, no thanks, but thanks for asking? Yes that was a question Erica. So on the same token, will you please jump out of an airplane at 20,000 feet with no parachute?? My contribution was clarifying your ridiculous advice and showing how there was zero chance of anyone taking that avenue. So it looks like you are the one not contributing to this thread.
  24. As mentioned before in this post, a crew chief would be the A&P, that stands for air frame and power plant. This has something to do with having bowtie tabs made up by going to an airport, randomly stumbling across a jet mechanic, having the good fortune of him pointing you in the direction of their sheet metal shop, not getting arrested while traversing the numerous runways and taxiways, and then not getting laughed out of the shop when the sheet metal fabricator looks at you and says, "you want me to make you what?? Do you not have any idea where you are right now"? At least that's according to YOU Erica, so you should know very well what this has to do with candles. lol
  25. I'm surprised that video is still up. The company that bought mandles.com and mandles.net from me were supposed to have had that shut down. I love the chuck norris sweat one.
