  1. I have been using NG Carrot Cake and thought it was pretty good but I see that several of you think pretty highly of the one from BCN so I think I'm going to give that a try. :smiley2:
  2. I have a customer requesting a scent called Juicy Apple from Keepers of the Light and I'm not having much luck in my search. The description provided by Keepers is....a bright and cheery apple bouquet accented with peach, cinnamon and clove notes. So I was thinking maybe a Cinnamon Apple Peach? I just found one from a supplier called Sweet Cakes (not familiar with them) and the description is....blend of peach, apple, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, musk, and sandalwood vanilla. Any thoughts/ideas??
  3. Thanks Candybee, I will give that a try. And you're right, I have tried the hair dryer when I needed to just lightly smooth out some ripples, but it did not work in my attempt to fix a sinkhole. What a mess!! I ended up with little splatters of wax on my glasses, not to mention everywhere else. Yikes! I just might head on over to Ace Hardware this weekend and get myself a decent heat gun.
  4. I am really glad you told me this because I have been looking at buying one of the really cheap heat guns, just haven't had a chance yet. Sure glad I didn't! Thanks again!
  5. Despite posting a few times in recent months, I realized I never actually introduced myself so if y'all will please forgive me....I have been making candles and tarts for several years now but only recently started selling. Nothing big or fancy, just large and small mason jar candles and wax tarts, but my customers seem to love them. That makes me happy! I am a single mom and full-time college student (psychology) who loves making candles and producing a great product for friends and family. I absolutely love this board and would like to thank all of you for providing me with much of the information I have needed during my candle making experience. I do have one quick question....no matter what I do, I always have sink holes after my candles cool (after trying different things, to no avail, I have learned to accept my sink holes as part of my candle making process). So...in order to get rid of them, I have always saved a little wax from the original pour and once the candle completely cools, I remelt the leftover wax and top off the candle for a nice smooth finish. However, if I am pouring several different fragrances, it is sometimes a pain in my behind. I thought about trying a heat gun. My question is....when you use the heat gun to melt the top layer to fill in the sink hole, the wax on the wick melts too. Is that normal and is it okay? And should I use the heat gun on a low setting and melt the wax slowly or use the high setting and melt it a little quicker?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....and I look forward to being a part of this forum!!! Y'all have a wonderful day
  6. Got my samples today and LOVE Jamaica Me Crazy and Honeysuckle. Not fond of Beach Linen....poured it using 4794 and the more I smell it, the more it reminds me of a shopping trip last week when a much older lady (probably in her 70s) was standing near me and the overwhelming smell of her perfume made me so nauseous, I had to leave the store. Also got Strawberry Shortcake, Love Spell and Pumpkin Pie to try. CS Likes: Cranberry Marmalade Hansel & Gretel's House Blueberry Cheesecake Cinnamon Bun Strudel & Spice Grapefruit & Mangosteen Pearberry Red Hot Cinnamon Jamaica Me Crazy Honeysuckle Mango Papaya Rose (I don't care for Rose but my customers love it!) Lilac (same thing) CS Dislikes: Beach Linen Black Cherry (too much of a fuel smell) Christmas Hearth Lavender Vanilla Twigs & Berries
  7. I have used CS Blueberry Cheesecake for almost a year now and it is one of my best sellers. Customers love it!! It is a great Blueberry Cheesecake minus the graham cracker crust.
  8. I tried the ICS Zucchini Bread in my tarts today and I just don't like it. There does not seem to be any bakery smell to it at all. Reminds me of when I was growing up and my Mom would slice up zucchini, dip it in egg and flour and pan fry it. Now my Grandma's Zucchini Bread was another story (it was yummy!) Mark that one off my list.
  9. Dessa: The ongoing hunt for Spiced Pumpkin continues! LOL ~ I just read where you said ICS Amish Harvest has been compared to Celtic Moonspice so I did a little research. I found a description that says Celtic Moonspice is "a wonderfully fragrant blend of warm spices, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg." While ICS Amish Harvest has a warm spicy, cinnamon, nutmeg smell to it, there is definitely pumpkin (like a sweet buttery pumpkin). And, I do not smell any clove whifch is one of the reasons I love it so well. :smiley2:
  10. I have been sniffing the Amish Harvest for the past 2 days (it smells amazing!) but I am now starting to doubt myself about its comparison to Spiced Pumpkin. I'm not so much doubting whether it smells like Yankee Spiced Pumpkin, but doubting whether or not I am making a non-biased comparison or is it just because I really really like this scent??? I was out shopping the other day and almost bought the Yankee Spiced Pumpkin so I would have it on hand to compare. Now I wish I would have!! I will be anxious to see what you think....
  11. I received Zucchini Bread from ICS last week and honestly, I'm not sure if I'm going to like it. It is plenty strong, it just does not have any of the sweet or spicy bakery smells to it (which is what I typically go for). I'm sure it could be totally different in wax and I will test it to see if I might like it....but OOB, it smells like grated zucchini. :undecided
  12. Thanks for your reply! Actually, I just received Amish Harvest and Mulled Cider from ICS today and although I'm a little reluctant to trust my nose today (I'm getting over a sinus infection), I'm thinkin' these two FO's from ICS might be pretty darn close. Even if I'm totally wrong on this, these two scents are wonderful! I poured some tarts with both and WOO HOO I may have found what I've been looking for!!!
  13. I have been looking for a dupe of Yankee's Spiced Pumpkin and Apple Cider. I have been searching and searching....I'm frustrated and ready to pull my hair out! Can someone please lead me in the right direction?? I would be so grateful.
  14. Cinnamon Bun from CS....love it and my customers love it too!!! (Red Hot Cinnamon from CS is pretty good too!)
  15. I have used the Sage & Citrus from WSP and my mom swears it is a Yankee dupe. I'm not a fan of this scent so I can't say from my own opinion but my mom (and her friends) love it!
  16. I just poured tarts today using the Banana Nut Bread, Country Berry Hotcakes, Vermont Maple Syrup and Buttercream scents from the Candlemakers Store and WOW, they are awesome! On the website it says you can use less of the Grade A oils (which is what I have) because they are alot stronger but I used the same amount per pound that I do with all my oils...1.5 oz per pound of wax. The Vermont Maple Syrup is a little different than I thought but it is a great scent. I was hoping for a Mrs. Butterworth's kind of maple syrup, however this fo is just like the name...pure Vermont Maple Syrup. Definite thumbs up from me!!
  17. I did not realize that Yankee Harvest Spice was different...wow, I am going there right now to check it out!! Thanks bunches!
  18. I am going crazy trying to find a scent that Thompsons Candles calls Harvest Spice. I know the Yankee Harvest scent quite well and it is not the same at all. The only description that Thompsons gives for this scent is "pumpkin, apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove". It is a very strong spicy scent and I cannot detect any sweetness to it at all. I LOVE this scent!! I would be so grateful for any help! :smiley2: http://www.thompsonscandle.com/HarvestSpiceBagofCrumbles-6oz.aspx
  19. Well, it looks like I might be going with the banana nut bread from KY
  20. Since I am just a newbie candle maker, I haven't ordered alot from BCN but I can say I love Granny's Pie Crust.....yummy, buttery scent. So far, it seems to be pretty popular with my customers too! :smiley2:
  21. I recently bought a few of the 1 ounce sample bottles of Amish Friendship Bread from BCN (they were having a great sale on samples). Really glad I only got a little bit of this FO!!! Honestly, I think it smells like warm milk, with maybe a little vanilla and just a touch (a very tiny touch) of spice. I have tested it using 1.5 oz/pound in 4794 wax (tarts), cured them for about 10 days, hardly any scent. Tried another batch couple of days ago using 2 oz./pound in 4794 wax...scent is a bit stronger. I put a few in my tart warmer and my kitchen smelled like warm milk. Not one of my favorites....
  22. I have been ordering Chestnuts & Brown Sugar from JS for the past several months and my customers love it!! It is definitely a strong FO....so thumbs up from me :smiley2:
  23. Thanks everyone for some great information! :smiley2:
  24. Hello everyone! My name is Tammy and I am new to the forum. I just started my own small business selling candles and tarts. I have to say, this forum has provided me with a wealth of information! I was wondering if anyone could suggest a great Banana Nut Bread FO. I received a free one oz. sample from CS and tried it in a small batch of tarts. All I could really smell was banana. Although it was a nice banana smell, I would like something nuttier :smiley2:. Any suggestions would be great!
