  1. Thanks everyone for the help, I'm going to go back to trying different wax blends. This time going with pillar as my higher percentage. I will give you all an update on my results. With luck I can get this figured out and stop making my famous two hour tarts!
  2. Would you say more pillar blend, less container blend? Would I be better to just use straight soy like 415 instead of the container?
  3. Well...to be honest I haven't calibrated my thermometer to boiling water or anything. So I suppose it could be off. I'm using a digital candy thermometer so that should be easy enough to check. What about the way I heat my wax, is direct heat from a hotplate ok?
  4. Lately I've been using a blend of 70% 464 and 30% eco pillar blend. I like the look of the wax and the hardness but I can't say it's done much for the longevity. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could make a better blend?
  5. It is this one I bought from Amazon. It says it's a tart and candle warmer which I worried was burning off scent too quickly but it only uses 20 Watts like most warmers I've seen. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002T6X2HG?cache=a47a64cbdf298bf05a405cd1874ec9b2π=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&qid=1401482566&sr=8-4#ref=mp_s_a_1_4
  6. Has anybody ever used any of the scents I listed with success in tarts? I really like ng scents and the price seems fair but I guess if they aren't going to last then maybe they are not such a good deal afterall.
  7. Most of the fragrance oils have been from nature's garden including monkey farts, lilac, sweet orange/chili pepper, hyacinth. Bcn I've just done cucumber/melon. And from Aztec I tried their monkey farts. Will increasing the fo to 1.5oz pp increase the scent life or will it just make the scent throw stronger for the same amount of time?
  8. The air conditioning could be a factor but I also had this issue with the heat on and with nothing on. I am using a 20watt warmer, if that makes much difference.
  9. I've been trying to wait a week before really judging them. Sometimes I will melt one within a couple days but I won't really worry about a true test until a week or more. I've been using clamshells as my containers so I assume they are sealed fairly well.
  10. Hi everyone, I've been reading old posts trying to solve my issue but haven't had any luck finding the magic fix. My issue is my tarts smell great but only last a couple hours at most. I've been using mostly ng scents but have also tried bcn and Aztec. I've tried several different waxes and blends. Some of which have included 464, 416, eco pillar blend, and eco advanced. I'm using 1oz of fo per pound of wax. Heating wax to 185, adding oil at 180, and pouring at 140. I am heating wax in a pouring pot on a hot plate. Are there any things that are absolute red flags that could be causing the short scent throw? Thanks for any help, I sure need it. Jason
  11. Hello, Hope everybody had a great holiday. I am considering buying one of these large coffee urns and turning it into a bulk wax melter. I remember someone on the board posting a picture of one they had converted and want to do the same thing. My question is about the electronics of it, as far as what needs to be changed if anything. So if anybody knows anything about these I would appreciate any help or tips. Thank a lot. Jason P.S.- It is a cecilware fe-200.
  12. Hi, I was just wondering if anybody has ever found a recipe for a spray in,leave in hair conditioner base? I use one that is from VO5 and like it really well but it can be expensive and I would also like to be able to change the scent. It is a non-areosol pump spray that you just spray on and comb into your hair and dont have to rinse it out. So if anybody can help me find a recipe or a supplier that sells a pre-made base it would be great. Thanks everyone.
  13. Hi all, I am going to attempt making tarts with astrolite v soon. I am using peaks scents and a presto pot. Any tips out there on getting the best results? I know ive heard both ways on the one pour claim of astro v, but im hoping the tarts will be able to be a one pour and still look nice. They are just for personal use so they dont have to be perfect but the better they look the happier i will be. So if anybody can help me out on the melting and pouring temps it would be great. Just curious what you guys have had the best results with. Thanks a bunch. Jason
  14. Hey all, Just got a couple scents from a new supplier. The ones i got were georgia peach and coconut lime verbana. The peach scent has a really smell alot like cough syrup and i cant smell anything resembleing peaches. The coconut scent has a fresh smell but really nothing like i thought it would be. My question is for the peach, will the scent possibly change once in wax or will it just be a waste of time and money? The coconut is decent enough to try but im not sure about the peach. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jason
  15. For those of you that make the corn cob freshners, how long do they usally stay fragrant?
  16. Hi everyone, Has anybody tried monkey farts scent and if so what did you think of it? Also when you lable your candles to sell or give away did you keep the monkey farts name or change it a little bit? I just didnt know if people might get offended by the name, you wouldnt think anybody would think it was that bad but there are those people who just like to complain. Im sure everyone knows what I mean on that one. So if anybody can give me some insight on the scent please do. Id also like to hear about peoples first reaction to the candle when they read the scent. Thanks all.
  17. Has anybody ever tried to have walmart order canning jars in the off season? I would guess they are available all year long but they only stock them during garden season. Ive considerd asking them but havent gotten around to it yet.:embarasse
