  1. I am not the original person who asked for this info but THANK YOU! You explained it the way I learn..a-b-c-d-e-f-g. You took it step by step and made it EXTREMELY easy to understand. Ever thought about being a teacher?
  2. Will this formula work as well for body butters?
  3. I totally agree! I've found that virgin coconut oil, sweet almond oil, and avocado oil are great together for a wonderful body butter.
  4. OMGoodness! 41?! That is sooo sad. Her family is in my prayers. I don't know her but that just makes me sad.
  5. I can testify to that! But I love making product. I get this euphoric feeling when my body butters are whipped up all nice. I look for any excuse to make some up!
  6. Can someone please break this recipe down into a 8oz batch. I don't need to make this much! Thanks!
  7. Thank you so much! I can't wait to make these! I want to use a truffle mold. Do you recommend a particular mold?
  8. I found this recipe on here for bath melts and would like to try it. However, I don't want to make such a large batch. I would prefer to do a test batch. But I'm not very good with breaking down recipes. So, could someone please configure this same recipe for me on a much smaller scale? Thank you so much and I really appreciate your help. 8 oz. cocoa butter (the smelly one) 1 1/2 cups baking soda 1/3 cup corn starch 1-2 tbsp. cocoa powder (if you want it brown) 1 cup citric acid Melt cocoa butter. When it's melted, add baking soda, corn starch, and if a dark chocolate melt is wanted, add cocoa powder. If not, leave as is. After everything is completely mixed and molds are ready, cool until pot is just warm to the touch, but still liquid. Add citric acid and stir like mad! Pour quickly into lined molds, then in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Have held up very well in warm weather. *Note: When you make it, if you want to add fo, rather than chocolate scent, use deodorized cocoa butter and add 1 tbsp. body safe fo.
  9. That looks wonderful! Is there any way to do a bath melt without citric acid?
  10. Have you tried Olinelabels.com They offer every kind of label you could think of! They come in matte, glossy, weather proof, inkjet, laser, and IMHO they are very reasonably priced. You can also order sample sheets for free. Hope that helps.
  11. I love it! I'm glad you told me that. I figured folks wouldn't want to use it because of it's snotty consistency. I will try the lecithin and if that doesn't get it. I guess snot it is!
  12. I have been melting down African black soap and "trying" to make a shower gel out of it. The process is simple. Shred up as much soap as you want, add vegetable glycerin, preferred fixed oil, preferred essential oil, and boiling water to your liking. Let it sit for about three days, mixing it several times a day. By day three it should not separate. However it is very thin. I have tried using guar gum once and xanthum gum once. Each time the consistency ends up being like snot, no matter how much or how little I used of either. And it is gross!!!! I mean it feels absolutely fabulous (moisture wise) and lathers like crazy. But it looks and feels like snot. I'm all about staying natural and many things listed as natural are harmful and sometimes synthetic in process. Does anyone know of an all natural thickener that will give me the consistency of shower gel and not snot? lol I was thinking about trying liquid lecithin.
  13. Oky doke. I've been on a mission since my last post. Found good info but results are shaky. lol I found that it is best to shred the african black soap into the sugar scrub mixture and not melt it down. My cube texture is nice but they are not pretty at all! It could be that I don't have a good mold. I just used a regular ice cube tray and knife to get them out, and cut them. I know totally GHETTO but I was anxious to try the recipe. I'll get a nice cube mold next pay period! lol So here is a recipe I found and just added the shredded African black soap to it. 20 g cacao butter 20 g shea butter (can be replaced by coconut) 20 g baking soda I stuck with the shea butter and used brown sugar instead of white. If you add vanilla essential oil to it, they smell just like chocolate bars. However, this person did not list how much sugar to use and I went by feel. So, could someone recommend how many grams of sugar I should use according to this recipe? Thanks! Here is a link to melting down african black soap to use it as a liquid body wash. But here is where I REALLY need help. I wanted to thicken it, so the first time I added some guar gum - Not Good! The second time I used Xanthum gum - Yuck! They both gave the soap a snot like consistency and not a shower gel consistency, no matter how much or how little I used. Is there an ALL Natural thickener I can use to get the shower gel consistency? I was thinking of trying liquid lecithin to see how that might work. Oh here is the link with instructions on melting down black soap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GdVHRkhSlQ
  14. Black soap by nature is extremely moldable ( is that a word? lol ) You can break it up and mold it back together in about any shape you want without water. So....I just shredded it into my sugar and oil mixture. So far it is setting up nice. Wish me luck and I'll let you know how it turns out! If not, what natural M&P base do you use?
  15. Okay, the African black soap comes in a big hunk of like rock. I learned that to melt it down you have to grate it and add boiling water. So should I just grate the soap into the sugar scrub and not necessarily make it a liquid? When I melted the soap down into a liquid, my sugar scrub cubes stayed to moist.
  16. Thank you for the link! I think I will be experimenting tonight! I'll let you know how I come out.
  17. Here is a good place to get the soap. Also check your local area for any African markets/grocery stores. Most of them carry the soap and big hunks of shea butter for very cheap! http://www.butters-n-bars.com/rawblacksoapproducts.html
  18. That sounds like a very good idea! Would I need a preservative if adding the milk powder and water to melt it down? I really don't want to use preservatives either.
  19. Thank you for all of your replies. I'll let you in a little secret I use for a foaming sugar scrub. Because I like to stay "all natural," I use a cheese grater and grate African black soap into my sugar scrubs. Works like a charm! African black soap is made of palm oil, plantain ashes and cocoa pods. Some of the best soap I have ever used! There really isn't a strong scent to it so you don't have to worry about it in your formulations. True, pure African black soap looks like a big hunk of rock. But you can use a pea size to wash your hair and you wouldn't believe the lather! I'm hoping to also incorporate it into a sugar scrub cube as well. Well I will get off of my "African" soap box now! Thank you ladies for all of your help.
  20. I would like to make sugar scrub cubes without M&P and without any e-wax so that is "all natural." Does anyone have a recipe? I've searched the threads but haven't found one. Thanks!
  21. Um..is there a ist on here somewhere of definitions for all of the acronyms that are used? Like what is FBB?
