I pour both Soy and Palm and like both. I'm not sure I get any better throw with the palm now that I've settled on a soy I like. For palm containers there are limited choices and I use Glass Glow from Candle Science along with their CSN wicks. It makes a beautiful candle and is easy to work with. For soy containers I use Ecosoya Xcel with CD wicks and have good results. For palm pillars I use Feather, Starburst and a custom blend that I make with CSN wicks. This works for me. Not sure what problems you had with soy just be ready for different problems with palm.

I guess I'm the first. I poured both pillars and votives. I wicked some as if they were my normal soy and the others as if they were my palm wax. Here is what I found so far: 1) you should wick as if it was soy 2) CSN (my palm) wicks - snap, crackle and pop which is kind of scary 3) mold release is an issue even for the votives which used a wick pin - I have never had a vegie wax so hard to get out of the mold. 4) the looks are nice - like a hard, glossy soy candle. I have a few pounds remaining some maybe I'll do some testing instead of just playing around. I'll post what I find.

I have/do pour CB Advanced and use LX wicks. What I found is that LX wicks bigger than LX 22 all have the NST2 treatment. For me, these LX 24 and up wicks all tend to Mushroom much worse than the CD wicks. Some FOs and color combos were worse than others but the tendency to mushroom seems to be related to these wicks and their treatments.

Same here. I have pretty much given up on the 2" Soy. I tried to wick so the candle would consume and that requires a wick that is way too big. When I try to wick to leave a shell, I get blowouts. So now I will pour a 3" Soy pillar and if I want a 2" pillar I use Palm instead of soy. A 2.5" inch soy pillar gives me fair to good results if I don't power burn them.

Does (or has) anyone use this wax? It is a soy and palm blend for pillars and I got 5lb to play with but was wondering how to wick it. Wick for soy or palm? Thanks

I was disappointed with CBA because of wet spots and weak scent throw. I only used it for a short time and never reordered. It was better with frosting than CB 135 but the scent throw was a show stopper for me. I have switched to Xcel which seems to address my issues. It has a good throw for most all of the fragrances I use and seldom has a wet spot or frost. Hope this helps.

I'm having a hard time finding a supplier that sells CD/CDN wicks by the spool (100ft or so). Almost everyone seems to sells them as Pre-tabbed. Any help would be welcome.

Could you tell us what size those containers are?

Have you tried a CSN wick from Candle Science? They clam they are specifically for Palm waxes. I have used CSN 9s in several 2" crystal palm pillars and have been happy with the results. The wick assumes a self trimming posture so twisting the wick when you wick the mold seems to help rotate that directional heat. Steve

Here they are. My first GG Palm containers. I like the pattern but must improve my cooling methods. It looks like the bottom of one and the top of the other didn't cool at the same rate.

Top, A Tortoise Shell pillar was the first pillar I ever made and Like Debbie I use the CSN wicks for palm wax and am happy (so far) with them. I have noticed that Tortoise Shell needs a smaller (typically one size) than Starburst, or Feather palm. I am just ending a test burn with my first Crystal Palm pillar and am thinking that I may need to wick it like Tortoise with a CSN 7 instead of the suggested CSN 9 (2" pillar). Steve

For those of you experienced with Glass Glow Palm, Is it really a one pour wax? Or will I need to wreck my containers in a similar fashion as we do pillars? Thanks Steve

I am trying to make a series of Asian themed palm pillars and want to attach an embellishment around the pillar. I have long thin dried grass blades to use as a tie but need to find chinese or asian coins (you know the ones with the square holes) and i can't seem to find a source. Similar looking charms may work also. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Steve

Can anyone tell me where I can get a sample (says 5 or so) of CD or CDN wicks? Everywhere I have looked wants to sell me a min. of 100. One place would give me 1 wick sample for $5.00 in shipping after I gave them all of my credit card info. I'm willing to pay for the wicks. I'm not looking for free. Candle Science has packs of 5 wicks for a reasonable price, but they don't carry CD or CDN. Any help will be welcome. Steve

Ok here is another newbie question. How do you scale this recipe up? If I wanted to make a batch 3 times this size, would I multiply everything by 3? Is it that simple? Thanks Steve

Yes I did, as well as different color and FO combinations and it doesn't seem to make much difference. I did not that to same wick in a 3" pillar was good - no mushroom. Odd. I was wondering what specifically causes the mushroom effect.

Not that specific jar but, I use a 12oz straight sided jar from Candle Science. It has a 2.95" diam. and is totally smooth. The first test was with Ecosoya CB 135 and a LX 22 wick and it seemed a little under wicked. The next test was the same with a LX 24 wick and it is burning as we speak. So the jury is still out for a day or so. Steve ROLL TIDE ROLL!!

A 3.1" dia. oval hex jar poured with Ecosoya CB Advanced using both FO and color and a LX 22 wick. The burn leaves a lot of hangup which doesn't clear later in the burn and the wick drowns out 3 or 4 times until I remove some of the melt. Thinking I was under wicked, I loaded the same test using a LX 24 Wick. This gave a full melt pool, no hangup and the jar stayed comfortable to the touch. BUT, the wick Mushroomed badly on every burn and the candle burned fast. It now seems a bit over wicked, and there is no LX 23 wick. I'm have always used LX wicks and know nothing about other kinds, but I do know that if I ask this question here I will get tons of good advise. Anyone have a suggestion as to another wick for this case? Thanks Steve ROLL TIDE ROLL!!
