How do you control which way wicks curl?

I wish I was able to narrow it down like that but I've had this happen with ECO, HTP and CSN wicks, basically all the ones I've used. How did you know the change in color the one time was due to the oil?

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I have been using two mixes of 464/4630, sometimes the 464 is the dominant, and sometimes 4630 is dominant, depending on the FO. In both cases, after burning for a few hours, even when the melt pool seems to be OK, once the flame(s) is extinguished and the candle re-sets, the area which was burning has turned a different color than the rest. This occurs whether I use dye or not. Some other threads suggested this was an issue with ECO wicks but I've had this happen with HTP wicks also. For my own candles I don't care but I had a question about it from someone else. Does this mean the wicks are too hot? It took me such a long time to find wicks that worked well that I feel like I'll have a breakdown if I have to start testing all over again and I'm hoping there's another solution. Please help. It's a little bit wider, maybe 1/4" - 1/3" I did get a response from Candle Science and they said if double wicking I should try 2 ECO 8's or ECO 10's - you're only using ECO 2?

I use 464, when I used it straight the tops were very smooth but I had many issues with frosting, no matter the oil or color. I tried pouring at all different temps and using coconut oil but it was still there. I wound up adding 4630 to eliminate the frosting. There are a lot of posts around that have all kinds of hints about tempering and other things but I'm not that concerned about using all soy so I had no problem using a little 4630 to eliminate the frosting. Some posters feel that people don't mind frosting but I have not found that to be true.

Beans are you using a large whisper jar? I used to only do straight 464 but added the 20% 4630 just to help with frosting. I have also used an HTP 1212 for a larger jar (large Lucida/Elevation) and had very good results.

I'm pretty sure I already have the CD 22 and I definitely have CDN 24 - 28, and ECO 16! I don't mind if I wind up double wicking but I would like to rule out single wicking first. I will try everything you recommended, thanks very much for your time.

Hi 001, yes, CSN 26 being the largest was the reason for my post. Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them a try. I'm still hoping to find out which wicks in other series are similar to CSN 26; do you think CD26 is a close equivalent to CSN 26?

I'm still trying to master double wicking, I recently bought an EZ wick setter to help but haven't tried it yet. These jars are a little under 4" though so I am fairly sure there is a single wick that will work; like I said for some oils the CSN 26 works well, just need a slightly larger one for other oils.

I use 80% 464 and 20% 4630.

Hello, hoping someone can give me some help. The Candle Science site seems to be down right now so I can't email them. I am using their CSN 26 wicks in a 4" whisper jar and it works well for some oils but not others, so I want to wick up but this is the largest one in the CSN series, so I'm wondering if anyone happens to know what the equivalent to the CSN 26 might be in another series (CD, CDN, HTP, Eco) so I could go to the next size in that group. Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thanks!

THANK you Sisters3, I have just made my second ever sale of 10 jars which I found out were discontinued, and I have exactly 10 left and thought one was forever ruined. I just touched it up with the heatgun and the big spots are gone. When it's for my own use I don't care at all but you want them to be perfect when selling them. Thank you thank you!

I use a digital candy thermometer by Component Design. It is a little pricey (around $20) but it's extremely handy, it has an upper and lower alarm so it can be used for the heating up and cooling down. It has a clip on it as well that I attach to the Presto Pot.

Thanks Brenda. One question: the only FD&C colors I've found are basic primary colors like red, blue and yellow. Do you know where I can find the pastel colors you mention?

I'm sure there's a way since most of the mass manufactured perfumes are colored. I don't mind a clear spray in a clear bottle, but I do mind the sprays which come out an unattractive yellow shade because the oil is tinted that way ...I know that I can always use a colored bottle but would like to find out if there's an alternative; the nicest bottles are clear. I've never used micas or FD&C colors for lotions, etc., but I don't think they stain your skin (?) Anyway I'll let you know what I find out - right now I'm hoping someone posts a response so you'll probably find out at the same time I do!

Hello, Does anyone know if it is possible to color alcohol based body sprays and perfumes? All the colorants I've seen out there are listed as for use in creams, lotions, soaps, etc., but none for sprays. Is it possible to color alcohol based sprays and if so, with what? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA! Jen

A lot of Snowdrift's FO's have been Out of Stock for quite a while. I've written to them 3 or 4 times to see if they're going to be back in stock or if they're discontinued but no one's responding. Anyone know any more details? I LOVE their Velvet Tuberose. TIA! Jen

I've been testing a bunch of different paraben free shower gel bases (MMS, Ingredients to Die For, Essentials by Catalina) and they all seem to have one of two problems: they either have a strong base scent or they thin to water when adding FO. I've tried adding Crothix but it doesn't seem to do the trick. I'm hopeful about Aquatech but would be more than grateful if anyone can recommend a good base that is truly unscented, is paraben free and doesn't become water when adding FO. TIA! Jen

Hello, does anyone know if Hayward Enterprises and/or Wholesale Body Oils are resellers/licensees of Save On Scents? Their offering lists are very similar. I've had some bad luck recently with some SOS scents that I can only seem to find at these places, and I don't want to wind up with two bottles of something I can't use. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA Jennifer

I use SGS in 464 and everything I've tried has worked very well except Ralph Lauren Blue. Their Cherry Blossom is awesome, as is their Southern Rain. I think they are very reliable for strong throw in soy.

I second that, the Rain Water is very nice. Also their Honeysuckle Jasmine is fantastic. Haven't made the Hawaiian Breeze yet but I have a sample I'll be making soon.
