  1. I can't speak for the others but Peak's Cabernet Grape, to me, doesn't smell anything like wine. It's pretty much just a straight grape, more like grape juice than anything. BCN has a Cabernet. I haven't tried it but maybe somebody else has and could throw in their 2 cents?? BCN also has a "Wine Cellar" FO. The description is: A full bodied blend of fine wines, complimented by a hint of oak. Wines are aged in oak barrels for years to achieve a deeper color, a richer and more complex flavor and an intense aroma. Close your eyes and inhale the intoxicating fragrance of a Napa Valley Winery!
  2. Peak's Apple Blossom is incredible.
  3. It's Christmas Cedar and not Christmas Tree? Woohoo!! I got a sample of Christmas Tree and loved it, was planning to add it to my line for this holiday season and was so sad to see that they had it listed as discontinued before I could use it (although, maybe that's better? Then I wouldn't be scrambling to find a replacement). If you're right, I will be so happy. Going to go see for myself! ETA: You're right, Christmas Tree isn't listed on the clearance page...however, the page for the FO itself still says it will be discontinued when stock runs out
  4. I would recommend either Fudge Brownie from Peak or Chocolate Fudge from Candlescience...both are mouthwatering
  5. That's what I thought after I saw what happened. I wonder why it's done that way? With candles I can kind of understand, since it changes form by the time it becomes the finished product, but if all you have to do is add a few drops of FO to an unscented base, it just becomes a scented base when you're done! Weird...thank you kindly for your answer!
  6. Ok, so I am in the process of testing out bases for a small line of bath and body products. I was working with a 4 oz. sample of unscented base that I planned to pour into two 2 oz. bottles. Thing is, after I mixed in the FO, put the empty bottle on my scale, tared it to 0 and poured until my scale read 2 oz, my bottle was only half full. I poured the remainder into the other bottle and the same thing happened. It happened with both shower gel and lotion. I didn't bother to try body spray because I didn't want to waste it. So my question is, how am I supposed to weigh these things to fill up my bottles? Is the base listed by weight, but the finished product by volume? I'm so used to working with just candles that I assumed it was the same way - all weight instead of liquid volume - but it looks like I was wrong. Please help because until that happened I was having a blast and I can't wait to try them out in the shower!! Oh and feel free to laugh, because I'm sure this is a really stupid question. I am usually fairly intelligent but every now and then my brain goes flying out the window :rolleyes2
  7. Thank you, Radellaf and ChrisR! People tend not to believe me when I tell them this...it's amazing how a marketing ploy can catch fire like the "soy is cleaner than paraffin" one did.
  8. I've used it. It's a very nice, fresh and clean fragrance. I couldn't detect any anise in it whatsoever, though. Disappointing because that was my main reason for buying it! It's more of a complex, flowery lemon than anything. It would probably make great soaps (which I don't make, I'm just speculating!)
  9. I guess I thought of the people that the paparazzi follow around...like celebrities guzzling champagne
  10. None whatsoever...each batch has been great. I also use the HTP wicks.
  11. No problem!! Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!
  12. For some reason I immediately thought champagne? Nature's Garden has a ton of champagne fragrances...
  13. Papermart is great. You should take a look at Nashville Wraps too, I love them. www.nashvillewraps.com
  14. I've actually never smelled Prell (to my knowledge) but a reviewer at Nature's Garden said Beach Daisies is similar. I do use Beach Daisies, and it's a very nice scent. http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/candlemaking-soap-supplies/item/f-15/-Beach-Daisies-Fragrance-Oil.html
  15. The price shouldn't have anything to do with the quality - I would think that if it's packaged and sold under the IGI-4627 name, the quality should be consistent. Of course I know minor inconsistencies in production can occur, but if those inconsistencies result in a nearly $25 price difference, then it should be called something else, IMO! I get mine from Candlescience, and they charge $39.99 for a 25-lb block. Candles and Supplies, on the other hand, charges $62.14 for (what they call) a 26-lb cube. Sorry, I'm not paying $22 for an extra pound of wax! I order mine from Candlescience (despite living 45 minutes from C&S). Even with the shipping from North Carolina added on, it's far cheaper than driving up to C&S to pick it up!
  16. Same here, and the results were much better than they were with the other programs I tried! And I use Adobe InDesign for the template.
  17. I add at 190, pour at 175-180. I never heard anyone say to add it that high - I'd be afraid to!
  18. Jeez...C&S already has the highest paraffin prices of any suppliers I've seen! That's why I get my 4627 from Candlescience...even taking into account the fact that C&S is only 45 minutes away from me, I still spend less having it shipped from North Carolina than if I were to drive to C&S to pick it up!
  19. The Chestnuts & Brown Sugar on the Just Scents page I linked to is word for word what you wrote in your question That would probably be your best bet for starting out.
  20. I Googled the entire description you put and came up with what looks like a candle shop (in South Jersey...not Ohio like you mentioned). That place calls it "Chestnuts and Brown" although I'm guessing they meant Brown Sugar? Nature's Garden has a Chestnut Brown Sugar FO; here's the description: A succulent aroma that is reminiscent of fall time with top notes of caramel, brown sugar, nutty characters, maple, and butter; followed by powdery middle notes; sitting on a fresh, full-bodied base note of chestnut. It doesn't sound exactly like what you wrote, but it might be a starting point? Rustic Escentuals also has one, but the description is pretty long-winded without a whole lot of detail so I'm not sure if it's got what you're looking for. So does Taylored Concepts. Hope that helps a little! ETA: I think I found it! http://www.justscent.com/page92-ss2.html
  21. Blueberry Cheesecake, Violet Lime, White Tea & Berries, Chocolate Fudge, Palm Tree, Fig Tree, Basil & Herb, and Hawaiian Breeze are some of my favorites And I also love the free sample with every order and yes, shipping is fast!! I live right outside PA and usually get my order within 2 days. Can't beat that with a stick
  22. On my last order from Candlescience, for my free FO sample I picked "Christmas Tree". Haven't put it in wax yet but OOB I really like it. I know what you mean about "bathroom" pine, and I hate those. This one smells real. But like I said I haven't put it in wax yet so I have no idea how it will cure. As for blends, have you tried Peak's Cinnamon & Balsam? Pine isn't the dominant note, but neither is the cinnamon - they blend together really nicely. It's in no way a straight pine but just a suggestion in case you're ever looking for something a little different. My customers adore it and I can barely keep it in stock from October through January
  23. I loooooove Hayride...doesn't seem to be such a big seller though
  24. Pumpkin Crunch Cake is AWESOME. I use it in 4627 and the HT is out of this world. You'll want to eat it (or maybe that's just me, I don't know, but it does smell good!) The only other one on your list that I use is Autumn Magic. I love that one as well. It's a very warm, woodsy fragrance with a little musk. It's different. Also throws really well in 4627. Hopefully some others can chime in but it looks like you're off to a good start!
  25. If you find it, let me know. Ever since my mom decided I was old enough to burn candles I've been looking for a pumpkin that is a true pumpkin and not a bunch of spices mixed together and called pumpkin! It's one of the main reasons I started making candles myself...and I still can't find anything close to it.
