  1. Wow - happened across this post and I had to respond. The dye part of the business has been closed since April of 2007 - nothing funny going on, I promise. I pulled all banner advertising, put up red banners on all order pages and any links I could find on my blc.com site to make it harder to find. As the dye pages are actually part of my main business site, the coupon banner goes across every page the include code is (so it does show on those pages, but the dyes still are not avail as the signs state). google still shows links if you search, but the banners are there to remind all that yes, we are still closed for business. I did forget to update the banners to get rid of the "weather-related" wording, but we were still down. I get a part of my materials from a place on the east coast that had flooding last April which closed their building for several weeks due to the extensive damage resulting from it. As I had planned to move soon after they were back up, I just let the red banners stay up which let folks know that we were still closed - thinking my next move would be one I could comfortably run my dye business from. That didn't happen :undecided I offered the dyes only to existing customers at that time as a courtesy to them - so as not to leave them hanging - not because I was rolling in greenbacks and greedy for the bigger businesses out there. BarnLoft is a candle site with a couple of pages added on for the dyes, Frostop & my calculator which was made specifically for these ingredients. Yes they are my own and no, I'll not sell them again. Waaaay too much to undertake on my own and as I found out, room and reliable help is hard to find. I juuuuust couldn't do it and keep it running smoothly, consistently. After still being out of service when fall finally hit, I realized it'd be rediculous to even try to get it all up and going again as so many had long waits sometimes for orders or due to moves and what-have-you, I'd be forced to close it all down again. I mean, I hear ya! I am just as disgusted and am truly sorry I couldn't keep it going. I just kept holding out hope that the next turn would be right and I could make it go. I will ask you to please not interject assumptions and make up stories, though. I was (and am) a long time member of this industry and have had many successes and failures over the years - but always helped others wherever I could. I have made it clear on the site that pryme is unavailable, so please don't curse me when it doesn't show up on your doorstep. I can't disable the cart I have, as it would disable the cart all over the site. No one's been taken, no one's been lied to and believe me, I'm sure I've suffered more loss than anyone in this. Please don't email me about them & don't be offended if your email about pryme goes unanswered (site says we're closed, remember). I'm not being sneaky and evasive or rude - just closed for business! Please respect that. I've spoken with a reliable supplier off and on regarding taking them over and hope we can reach an agreement. I do hate to just let them go when it took so many years of trial and error and much research to come upon something like this. It would all seem like such a waste. Though I'm still in the industry, I no longer manufacture, I resell someone else's candles. I haven't sold ad space in almost 2 years (that was an OLD page someone ran across) lol. Please, I am a waste of board space & bandwidth to talk about because all the complaining in the world isn't going to re open it - So let's move on, shall we? Anyhow - that's the story - that's the truth. Peace out!
  2. Just curious if anyone out there has had issues with this wax as of very recently. Having problems with cracking upon repour...very strange :undecided Repouring from a different lot # tomorrow, hoping it was just this one batch of wax (all same lot #). Thanks for any insight.
  3. I have 40-something of their tart warmers (the small red, blue, eggshell and green colors) I will be listing for sale very soon. Don't need them right now and want to clear some space!
  4. Hey bobbie, check out the excel color chart I sent you. Next to each color is the formula for acheiving it.. the last column in each row is the "color load" or total percentage of use. Some colors will take 1%... some .65% etc, depending. These are just my own personal formulations that I send out as a way to get you started. You can change them up and use any amt. you want. Plug those numbers into the calculator for EXACTness...batch to batch, no waste, same uniform color every single time. You will need to use the color chart in conjunction with the swatch page link I sent you. The excel sheet has the names and formulas and the link is the color swatch that goes with it. This is so you can see what these formulations actually look like in a finished 100% soy candle. Not all colors will be used at the same level, so check that last column carefully. Like ChrisR said, you can take the examples I sent you and tweak them yourself. You can modify the excel sheet to suit your own needs and keep adding new color formulas. I also emailed you so let me know if you need anything! If there is a particular color you love ie: "Ocean"... cut the use level in 1/2 and you now have "misty morning" lol The possibilities are endless please let me know if I can help further. I did email you but saw you had posted, so got ya both ways just in case
  5. Since it's mine, I can tell you Robin.. it's not scented soy oil It's thicker than lotion and actually coils on itself when squeezed. I'm just so tired of the norm, so I'm continually trying to come up with products no one else has...this one definitely fits that criteria
  6. because you have essentially "tempered" the wax. Beanpod and Soy Basics does this in their pouring process.. they have custom machinery that does it for them.
  7. The 1 and only cozy up warmer I ever used shorted out and blew up. Thank god I was sitting nearby when it happened. I just happened to glance over at it because I heard a slight humming noise coming from that direction. I then heard a loud "pop!" and sparks flew.. then it smoked like a muther. I ran and unplugged it (it kicked a breaker off when it did this).. the absolute last cozy up I will ever touch! The CPSC really needs to do a recall on these hunks of garbage I only use Darice now.. I have tested them to death. I use the large, 22 watt as it is the only one that will melt my large candle.
  8. One thing I am curious about first, is you say you use .8oz of fragrance per "jar". Assuming you, like most of us cannot fit 8oz of wax in an 8 fl oz jar, (I can only get 7oz in and that is pouring HOT).. you are using at least a 12% fragrance load I don't know of any soy meant to hold that much fragrance, so you might first try backing off the scent load. 2nd.. If you add your fo at 120, as soon as the oil hits the wax, the wax will cloud up and crystalize in spots. You can see it happening when you do it. It is not binding with the wax and will not properly disperse. This happens around 140-150 degrees as well, so as you can see, you'll need to add scent at a much higher temp than 120. Your scent throw issues sound like you are way over wicked and overscented. The meltpoint of your wax is only 125.. you add 12% fragrance to it (upping the oil content by quite a bit) and wick it HOT. All you are doing is burning off fragrance before it can be "diffused" into the air from the molten pool. A: Back down on scent to no more than 9% B: Add scent around 165-175 degrees and stir well C: Wick properly.. if you can't hold onto the candle jar at full meltpool and depth of at least 1/4" ..you are overwicking. D: If things dont' improve with further fragrance testing, look into testing another wax.
  9. Personally, I'd search for a candy corn that IS compatible with your wax. I don't care to push limits. If it doesn't like my wax (polar)..there is a reason. There are way too many candy corns out there that will more than likely blend just fine. Have you tried Candle Cocoon's? It's absolutely awesome! For the life of my I don't understand when I see posts that say "warm bottle, heat wax higher, stand on one leg, leaning at a 45 degree angle and stir for 45 minutes" who the heck has that kind of time and patience for one oil?!
  10. Donita, you did a fantastic job as usual. May I ask what temp you poured the pillar on the left, using only 4045EP and 1oz Fragrance? Did you change temps with the layers or heat the mold at all w/ a heatgun? Thanks
  11. Hi, those are mine so I can tell ya. No, they aren't just colored scents. It's an actual wax my bf and I developed during a "how to come up with something no one else has" moments.
  12. I've been through it all with color (or not). My website is nearing 6 yrs old. During the first 2 yrs, I offered color only. I then decided to offer the option of dye-free just as an added something no one else was doing. They went over very, very well. So well, when I finally had it with coloring/frosting and all that, I went to dye free only for about a yr. Now I offer the option again. In the past, dye free was chosen about 70% of the time. This time around, it's chosen about 40% of the time.
  13. As someone who's offered dye free candles for years, do yourself a favor and invest in a dry erase marker. I came up with an abbreviation list for all my scents and write the abbrev. on each jar. Don't wipe the marker off until you're ready to label.. works like a charm! It is amazing the effect color has on your ability to recognize fragrance. For votives.. can't really do that. I buy butcher paper (inexpensive) and lay it out, setting my molds on it. If I have 6 that are cinnamon stick and 12 vanilla, I line them up, then using a marker, draw a line from the first mold to the 6th in that line, marking with the scent abbrev. CS .. then draw a line from the first to the 12th mold for V Did you ever get what I sent you or have a chance to try it yet?
