I started out making clamshell melts with EcoSoya CB-135.  When that went away I switched to GW 415.  Everything worked out okay for about a year.  Now all of a sudden I am getting several reviews that the HT is horrible, and I've tested several myself...I agree.  Some scents will throw no matter what, but ones that did well before are barely getting off the ground (Fruit Loops for example, which is usually pretty strong).  Has anyone who uses Golden Brands wax noticing a change?

I've been using 415 forever, but have not bought any since last year. When is your wax dated?

Hmmm I wonder if this is the same Very Vanilla I get from The Flaming Candle.  I'm pretty sure TFC sources  there's from AFI based on conversations I've had with AFI. I would suspect that CS gets theirs from AFI as well since AFI is in Georgia and CS is in NC. With all that said, I use the VV pretty frequently in a fragrance blend and hadn't realized it was reformulated. I have noticed that the color of the FO has some variation but the fragrance seems consistent. But perhaps that's just because I don't use a ton in my blend. So I guess my best advice would be to talk to the folks at TFC and/or AFI. Just know (if you don't already) that the minimum order at AFI is 10#.

Thank you for sharing this. I had a chance to look through the Flaming Candle site and I see quite a few others that may be same/similar to the many other reformulated/discontinued CS fragrances that I have been looking for. Can you comment on their shipping and customer service?

I'm not sure at what level the VV would have been reformulated, if for only CS(to pass B&B specs), or at the higher level? I do believe the scent description has changed on the CS site, as I do not remember it  having a bourbon note?

So here is the response from CS.

"The formulation of Very Vanilla did not change. However, we are actively developing another version of Very Vanilla that allows a higher usage rate for body care products, although it is not available for purchase at this time."

So, it didn't change, but it's going to. I guess the question now is whether the new one will wick different LOL.

Did they happen to give you anytime frame for that? I hope they warn us so I can stock up.

The last time I spoke to them about FOs, they said they were changing all of their FOs to make them all prop 65 compliant and Phthalate free. I was told that was why they discontinued some of them, because they weren't able to reformulate them to meet these standards. Maybe this scent hasn't gone through the changes yet, or it was already meeting their new standards so they didn't have to change it. I guess I need to ask them now.

I'd be interested in what you find out, I use a lot of that oil and I'm already burned on their Vanilla Hazelnut going away.

I am a chronic tester.  Anytime anything changes, I test.  New container =  test.  New fragrance = test.  I test when I get a new case of wax and when I get a new bottle of FO. Those lessons were learned the hard way.  Any new FO gets tested at 6%.  If it doesn't throw at 6%, I'm not using it in candles.  Maybe soap or melts, but I won't use it in candles and I won't buy it again.  I also randomly test something off the shelf all the time.  I've learned a lot by doing that, and I'd like to think it's made me much better at this craft.

I am an obsessive tester -- every fragrance- every jar- every wick- every wax -- any and all combos.

On that note, I do not tests every new bottle of FO. Do you mean new fragrance or new bottle of currently used fragrance?

I am so upset CS decided to stop with their Gardenia. I thought it was one of the better out there. Strong and creamy. I have tried NG Gardenia, and one from Aztec and those are very light in comparison. I saw that CS has a replacement that is Gardenia Tuberose, anyone try it?

I don't have an answer for you, but I am also quite unhappy about the discontinuation of their Gardenia. For me, it's about the 4th one in the last year that they have changed or dropped. At least on 2 of them, they sent me a warning email so I could stock up, not so with the Gardenia. I do have a 1/2lb left to console myself. I think I'll be getting a sample from NG.

The last time I ordered from NG was just 4/22. I went to place the same order and discovered they increase their pomegranate by $3.00 per lb. Some other ones went up by $1.30  per lb. I get raising a price here and there but $3.00 lb? It's a fruity scent too, not like sandalwood or patchouli that warrants such a dramatic increase. That translates to  $.16 more per candle. That's pretty substantial when doing wholesale :( Anyone else noticing this?

I've noticed it, too. In fact, I had been switching some of my fragrances to NG from another supplier that is pricing itself out of my range. I may have to rethink that.

I'm surprised to see the short cure time on the 415 users. I have melts that I was sure didn't have any throw at all so I sat them aside and tried even after a week with nothing. I just pulled them after 3 mo and they have great throw so I'm not sure what the difference you're doing is. Maybe candle vs melt?? Are you adding any additives to enhance FO?

I use no additives, melts are strong as well, although, not sure I've tested them at 24hrs, but I certainly don't make them wait.
