  1. Hmm...I guess that I am just worried because the consistancy is different that I am going to have to 'test' it with all of my scents and wicks all over again...
  2. Thanks Jaime! I appreciate your feedback! Could some other 4627 users tell me if their wax is more vasoline-like or harder? If that is the case, does anyone know the reason for the 4627 that I have been ordering this past year being so soft? Thanks! Allison
  3. Hi Everyone - I have been using 4627 for about a year now. I've been ordering it from the CandleMakers Store in Cinci, Ohio. Once the prices at Candle Science went down, I ordered from there because it was cheaper all around. There seems to be a pretty big difference between the stuff from The CandleMakers Store and Candle Science! Has anyone ever had this happen? The wax from Candle Science is harder than I am used to. It has been inside my house for over a month, so it isn't the cold outside. It is still messy, but the stuff from The CandleMakers Store is more like Vasoline and very easy to scoop...the stuff from Candle Science was difficult to scoop and even as a candle is harder, less finger prints if touched, etc. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks in advance - Allison
  4. Hi Everyone - I am curious to see if anyone else is having the same problem that I am with the 4627 - I've been using this wax for quite some time with great results. I have a number of chocolate scents (choc. milk, choc. fudge, biscotti, etc..) that I have been pouring and in this last month, no matter how long I stir, once the wax and FO have been poured and sit overnight, I see swirls on the top of the candle the next day...like the FO didn't blend. I am pouring into 3" diameter tumblers, 8% FO, heating to 200 degrees and pouring between 165 and 170. Any ideas or suggestions? I don't know if it is doing this because of the temperature change or what? It is pretty cold outdoors, but not in... Thanks in advance for your help! Allison
  5. Yeah, I guess that I have really good luck with the ECO's and the LX's when I keep the wick trimmed to 1/8-1/4 inch BUT...I know that when other people burn candles, they don't burn them with the same care that we all do. Does that make sense? Before I started making candles and before I learned a lot about them, I hardly ever paid much attention to trimming...so I figure that there are a lot of others that don't either. I just wish that there was a great wick out there that wouldn't soot if the wick didn't have the greatest attention paid to it! Okay - updates...I tried the CD10 and it began sooting once the wax had only about 3/4" left...I also tried the Hemp 1400 and I have to tell you, it didn't soot at all! Now, this is only with one scent so far but I was extremely surprised at this. It did mushroom but it didn't soot a bit - even at a 1/2 inch of wax. HTH's others that are thinking of trying other wicks! Allison
  6. The Cranberry Spice from Peaks is amazing. I've even had people e-mail after burning it to tell me how amazing it is! Allison
  7. I can't thank you all enough - I am going to sample one from each of your suggestions and see where that gets me! Thanks again! Allison:yay:
  8. Hi everyone! I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago looking for a great pumpkin pie type scent - in turn I received a BUNCH of wonderful suggestions! I was hoping that you all might have some suggestions for Sugar Cookie scents? I tried Candle Science's and although it smells wonderful, the hot throw really isn't anything to write home about. I have also tried Holiday Cookies from Indiana Candle Supply and it smells good and is strong, although it doesn't have the smell that I was hoping for...I liked the strong vanilla-ish smell that CS's FO had. I also tried Peak's Sugar Cookie FO but it smelled just like ICS's. I appreciate any suggestions that you may have!!! Allison
  9. Okay - when people say that 4627 is a booger to wick, they are kidding...actually, that is an understatement if you ask me! I am testing this wax in an 11oz tumbler - 3" in diameter and about 3.5" tall. I typically use between 8 and 10% FO. I've tested with RRD 47, HTP83, LX20, ECO8's and zincs. The only one that doesn't soot or smoke is the zincs BUT - they burn too hot. I have tried the 44-32-18's, the 44-24-18's and the 36-24-18's. Both 44's burn out to the edge but the glass gets so hot that I am afraid that someone would drop the candle if they tried to pick it up (scent throw was amazing though!). The 36 also burned to the edge although the scent throw wasn't all that great and the flame was so wimpy and pitiful that you just felt bad for the poor candle. I just ordered some CD10s and some Hemp1400's - does anyone have opinions on these two wicks? All of the other wicks that I have tested have had a good melt pool and good scent throw, although the smoking REALLY bothered me and the soot on the side of the container got to me as well. If the container is less than half full - will you almost always have some soot? Thank you in advance for an information, tips or advice that you may have - as well as opinions on the Hemps and the CD's! Allison:grin2:
  10. Thank you to everyone who suggested these pumpkin scents! I really do appreciate it. I don't really like too many bakery scents so it is nice to hear what smells good to people that do. I have ordered a few samples from everyone's suggestions and am anxious to test a few when I receive them this week! Thanks again! Allison
  11. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions...I am anxious to get this ball rolling! Allison
  12. Hi Everyone! I've been testing seasonal scents and recently tried Pumpkin Pie from CS...it smells beautiful although I don't find it to be very strong. Can anyone recommend a strong Pumpkin Pie scent to me? I am willing to shop anywhere for the right one! Thank you all in advance! Allison
  13. Hi Everyone - I have a question regarding melting candles down. I have been testing different wicks and I happened to make about five candles with ECO wicks and they smoke really bad - so, I was wondering if it is possible to melt it down and pour it in another container with another wick...I mean, I know that it can be done - but - would it lose some of the scent quality when burned with the new wick? They will just be testers for me to burn at home but I didn't want them to not be as strong as they were before. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions! Allison
  14. Oh...and the problem seems to be that I am making the candles in my home...
  15. Hi Everyone - I've been making candles for quite some time and have decided to participate in an art and craft show. I've called a couple of places regarding insurance and have been unable to get anyone to provide insurance. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I might be able to obtain insurance? I appreciate it! Allison
  16. Tells you how new I am, I didn't even know about that part of the Forum! Thanks so much for the heads up! Allison
  17. Hi! I've been searching for a Eucalyptus Spearmint type smell that is STRONG! I've tried ICS's and also a local supplier and neither had a strong hot or cold throw. Also - does anyone else use ICS's Ocean Mist? I love the stuff so much but even at 9% FO it doesn't seem to have a very strong throw! I am using 11oz tumblers, 3" in diameter, HTP 93. I've been having a lot of trouble with mushrooming so I just ordered some ECO's, some LX's and some RRD's to try out. Is there anything that I could be doing wrong? Oh - and I am using IGI 4627. Come to think of it - it seems that any scent that isn't sweet seems to have such a weak throw. They do pretty well (on a scale of 1-10, an 8.5) in my bedroom (about 220 sq. ft.) - but in my great room (about 700 sq. ft. with 14 ft. ceilings) the smell is pretty faint. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you so much! Allison
  18. Okay - so, I've been testing a lot of different FO's and I thought that it would be interesting to learning what scents you and the people that burn your candles like the best. I've had a lot of friends act as my 'testers' and I always like to ask them what types of scents they like the most and then I purchase that type of FO. I feel that it is a good way to try scents that I would never think to get! For example, one friend told me that her favorite candle scent is a spiced cranberry...I would never think to try something like that because I tend to like earthy scents. It was a real eye opener because it really is a beautiful scent! For me the following have been really great both in cold throw and hot throw: Apple Jack and Peel - Indiana Candle Supply Lilac - Peak - this one is absolutely amazing, I can smell it through my entire house for hours after I have extinguished the flame! Love Spell - Candle Science Chocolate Milk - Candle Science - another great, strong scent...I never thought that I would enjoy a scent like this so much! Cranberry Spice - Peak - not too sweet but a very attractive scent! Ocean Mist - Indiana Candle Supply - I love this scent, I just can't get it strong enough... Those are my favorite so far...I'd like to see what others like! Oh, and also - does anyone know where I can find a STRONG Eucalyptus Spearmint type scent? I tried both Indiana Candle Supply and a local FO supplier and neither were strong at all. I love the aromatherapuetic smell of it but it is so weak while burning... Thanks! Happy Labor Day! Allison
  19. No...there isn't any seepage at all...it's just a slight shade darker. Maybe it is the shadow of the container and I am just being paranoid. Thank you for your response. Oh - and I do not add any color to my candles, so it is just the natural wax color with FO. Allison
  20. Okay - just thought that I would correct something: it really isn't even 1/5th of an inch, it is probably closer to 1/7"...and the one candle has a tiny air bubble and in looking at that closely, it just looks like wax behind the bubble - not oily or anything. Just thought that I would add that... Thanks again, Allison
  21. I have been making candles in frosted containers all along and the company that I order from sent me clear ones on accident - so I have been using those clear containers as testers. I made two batches of candles last night and while looking at the containers, it seems as if the color changes a little bit about 1/5" at the bottom. If you use too much FO or if it is not blended enough, does the FO sit at the bottom or pool at the top? Or, could it just be the shadow of the container? What I am using: IGI 4627 FO: Ocean Mist, ICS, 10% FO2: Spiced Cranberry, CS, 8% Heated wax to 195 degrees, added FO, stirred for 5 minutes on both batches, cooled to 180 degrees and poured. I realize that 10% is a lot for an FO but the Ocean Mist just wasn't throwing much at 6%, 8% or 9%. I decided to try 10. I would appreciate any help! Thanks so much in advance! Allison
  22. Hi! Would anyone know where I can get dust covers or dust protectors (not sure of the correct name) for my container candles? I am using an 11oz frosted tumbler and would like some sort of cover but not necessarily a lid. Something clear and plastic. The jar is about 3 inches in diameter. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Allison
  23. Hi Everyone! I wanted to see how big everyone else's test burn areas were. I am afraid that mine might be too big - probably around 500-550 square feet with 14 foot vaulted ceilings. Some candles burn pretty strong in this area but others not as much. If I move the test candle to an area that is around 240 square feet with 9 foot ceilings, the scent is much, much stronger. Thanks! Allison
  24. My test burns are normally four hours. I haven't let one burn all the way to the bottom, so that is my next step. I've just been worried that HTP 105's are way too big. The 93's just don't quite get it... Thanks again for all of your help! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Allison
