  1. So it seems I need a better scale....Right now I'm using an old fashion one, not digital.
  2. Hi all....I'm having some issues understanding measuring FO. It's 6% FO to the total weight of wax used right? Anyway....my REAL question is what are some of the methods everyone uses to weigh FO? I tried weighing the container that the FO comes in, then weighing the FO and subtracting the container weight...but I don't think that's precise enough. Am I totally mixed up here? Thanks. ~S
  3. Howdy! Just wondering what container waxes you folks use out there and why? I heard J223 is loads of fun, but I wanted other opinions...
  4. the wax is IGI-4794. Two questions that weren't in the FAQ. The fp on one of my FO is 145, so how's that gonna work if I have to pour/mix way past that temperature? Also, I tested one of my votives and it burned to the bottom in a few hours. Is this because I put it in a pillar container, or b/c I didn't thread the wick through correctly (I used wick pins)? Thanks for everyon'e help! It's greatly appreciated
  5. Very first batch of votives were made. The candles aren't smooth on the outside, kind of alot of lines..is it the wax? the temperature when I poured it? And on my second pour, bubbles occured. Also my FO's and dyes have degrees on them? Does that mean, that's the best temperature to add/mix them with the wax? What's all this mean in candle language? ~S:p
  6. But I do have a scale! So measure the weight of the FO container, then subtract that to get the pure weight of the FO for accurate measuring? This is alot more math than I suspected.
  7. I started in the shed in the backyard, but I moved to the kitchen today. I realized that I need the kitchen atmosphere. Also, the first batch seems to have come out alright. I didn't measure frangrance oil or dye, I just put it in there kind of quick for fear that the max would cool off too quickly before I could mix and stir eveything. The next batch I'll have to sit and measure things. What's a good tool to use to measure Frangrance oil? I heard u can't measure it by weight, u have to go by volume? Eek!
  8. Thanks everyone. I'll try it all and see what happens. I'll definitely be letting everyone know how it went! ~S
  9. OK, I'm about to begin! I've finally got the right presto pot and I'm using a pyrex measuring cup as a pour pot. And it occured to me, when I need to do my second pour, how do I reheat the remaining mixed wax that is in the pyrex dish? Hints...clues...suggestions..anything! Thanks!
  10. So the wax won't get too hard or lose its fluidity (if that's the right word) while your mixing the FO and dye in the pour pot? Do you heat the pour pot? A Newbie ~S
  11. ahhh! it is a frydaddy! The source of info said a fryer....NOT a kitchen kettle! So does everyone agree that it's a presto kitchen kettle pot..i.e. the temperature control?? God bless u all for saving me on this one! ~S P.S. Don't worry I didn't use the frydaddy..i only bought it.
  12. Hello! About to embark on my first candlemaking venture. I've bought a presto pot that does not have a temperature control. I've heard this is necessary when using this method. Should I forego the presto pot and retreat to the double boiler system?
