  1. I live in Canada so importing jars for candlemaking costs a fortune. I ordered some supplies from candlescience some time ago and I had to pay a 50$ import fee for 12 jars not including shipping lol. I'd like to buy some apothecary jars and I was wondering if there are any Canadian jar suppliers out there? I was thinking about ordering from The Jar Store but I don't know if they have a Canadian warehouse. Anyone have experience with them? Thanks.
  2. Hi, I've never made a candle or a soap in my life but I'd like to eventually either start making candles or soaps and try to sell them just to see where that will take me. For those who make both, I'd like to know which one is easier to make? Which one is more expensive in terms of equipment, ingredients etc.? Which one sells better? And finally, I know that candle makers are being hit with price increases but is it the same for soap makers? I live in Canada so if I decided to do soy wax candles for example, I would have to import the wax and most of the supplies. I'm wondering if soap ingredients would be easier to find here.
  3. I bought some wonderful candles recently made in Germany by the company Eika and they are the most long lasting, high quality candles I've ever purchased. They look wonderful and they are completely dripless. It says that they are made with 100% fully refined paraffin wax. I was wondering if some of you use this type of wax? I suppose it's a lot more expensive than other types of wax? Thanks.
  4. Could it be the fragrance you are using that doesn't work well in soy?
  5. I'm new to candlemaking and I'm trying to get some more information on different waxes and FO's vs EO's etc. I'd like to know if some of you are making beeswax candles? I know that beeswax is more expensive but is there still a pretty big market for them or if consumers prefer other waxes? I'm thinking about beeswax because I live in Canada so shipping charges from the US are a bit expensive for soy and palm wax. Here, I could get pure beeswax locally but I'm just wondering if these types of candles are still popular. They sure look great as pillars and tapers though.
  6. I'd like to know the answer to that as well because I'm interested in making pure aromatherapy candles using either soy or palm wax. But you have to be careful about claims made by companies. Many so called "aromatherapy candles" aren't made with 100% pure essential oils. They are really a combination of EO's and FO's. For example, on the Aroma Naturals website, they keep mentioning that they use EO's and natural vegetable waxes but in I've read that they also use paraffin for their pillar candles but it's not mentioned on their website. Like some companies call their candles "soy candles" when in fact it's a 50/50 soy and paraffin blend. You just have to be careful about claims from candle companies.
