  1. I've got 2 new customers who make products for horses - namely shampoo bars. They're using SCI and disodium cocoamphodiacetate (surfactants) in a solid bar, with coconut oil and BTMS emulsifier, also panthenol and silk. I don't know the exact recipe they're using but they're raving about the silkiness and softness of the horses. HTH, Sarah.
  2. Yes, the after-feel of the product is fantastic! Silky soft and conditioning. Sarah.
  3. Yes, it does have a smell but this is normal and it won't come through in our finished product!
  4. FBB is a cleansing/foaming agent-based creamy 'soap', like a cream version of 'Dove'! It contains several surfactants which act as foaming agents and cleansers. SCI is the main component of Dove too. HTH, Sarah.
  5. Plum Kernel oil smells like Amaretto liqueur/almond/marzipan. Fantastic if you like that sort of smell! It's my new favourite!
  6. I can't use shea on my face - breakout time! Try some easily penetrating oils such as Raspberry, Cranberry, Watermelon... One I've just discovered is Plum Kernel oil- smells absolutely delish and sinks in so quickly. I tried some mixed with Macadamia oil last night and this morning and my skin feels and looks amazing. Can you tell I love exotic oils?! HTH, Sarah.
  7. You'd have to contact your supplier to see what ingredients are allowed to be added. The only trouble with adding anything other than EOs is that it upsets the stability of the emulsion and you'll also have Preservative issues. Sarah.
  8. Jadryga, PMed you back! My only concern with oils from Grocery stores is that my Safety Assessor won't certify products unless they're from reputable suppliers. Joe Bloggs' Grocery store isn't enough, especially with the additives they put in oils, even though they don't state them in the ingredients lists. Thanks everyone for your comments. I'm adding some oil-based extracts and Organic oils soon. If anyone has queries about shipping or anything else, feel free to contact me. Best wishes, Sarah.
  9. Me! I'm in the UK but sell to Europe, well most places actually. I do a wholesale service and will be stocking bases soon too. Take a look and PM me for any more info.
  10. Try here: http://www.theherbarie.com Angie has some great oil-based extracts. I'm actually working on a balm recipe using some of these extracts. I'm not sure if they're lip safe though. HTH, Sarah.
  11. Try browsing at: http://www.theherbarie.com Angie has many surfactants that you can sub and has a great formulary for you to use to see if you can come up with a similar recipe. HTH, Sarah.
  12. Not the powder shakers, I'm afraid. Not sure who does them in the UK. Sarah.
  13. Hi, Only just seen this thread - I do!!! I stock the 1oz push-up tubes and some deodorant tubes. Let me know if you're interested. Sarah.
  14. Hi all, Only just seen this - Ilona, I'm in the UK and sell BTMS if you're interested. Sarah.
  15. Some preservatives are not effective enough on their own against a wide range of bacteria/yeast/mould, so several are usually included to act synergistically together. HTH, Sarah.
  16. Try about 10% Polysorbate 80. HTH, Sarah.
  17. I agree totally with Nat. Buy a base in Europe, then you know it adheres to European Regs, etc. My Cosmetic Chemist certifies all my products for sale in Europe but not the US - many products made outside of Europe have to be certified for use in Europe. Even then, you'll still need the end product re-certified if you add anything to it. Sarah.
  18. Check out the formulary at http://www.theherbarie.com There are some great recipes there which work brilliantly. HTH, Sarah.
  19. There's a recipe for a sprayable lotion in the formulary at http://www.lotioncrafter.com I've made it before and it's great. I've also made one using BTMS (2%) and water, preservative, etc. which also works well. HTH, Sarah.
  20. It depends on what type you have - is it the powder? This is probably water-soluble anyway so wouldn't dissolve in an all-oil/butter based product. HTH, Sarah.
  21. It's available in small, thin white needles but they're easy to grind down and yes it does make an irritating powder that gets everywhere, so use masks, etc. It's well worth it though. I've used it in solid bubble bars as well and they're the best I've tried. I haven't tried them in bath bombs yet, so can't comment on those. IMHO, I think it really does make a difference to your skin. However, it still may be irritating to some. Edited to add: The usage rate is 1-15% but I've had products certified with 20-25% in them. Sarah.
  22. It is fantastic! IMHO it's milder than SLSA, it bubbles brilliantly and leaves your skin feeling smooth and conditioned. I originally got it from The Herbarie but now source it in the UK. I use it in bath creams, body washes and in a shower gel, usually along with Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate (a liquid surfactant also at The Herbarie). HTH, Sarah.
  23. Hi, You can get it at: http://www.gardenofwisdom.com I made a calamine lotion (usual lotion recipe with 10% calamine powder) for my daughter and her chicken pox recently. Worked a treat! HTH, Sarah.
