  1. Wow!! That's Great!! Not only is your name out there, you have a picture of your candles as well!! Hope you get lots of orders from this!! Congrats!!
  2. I use duct tape on the flat bottom aluminum molds and on the concave molds I use a wick stickum over the hole and then put a piece of duct tape over the wick stickum. I usually get about 25 to 30 pours before I have to change the wick stickum. I get more with the duct tape on the flat bottom molds.
  3. JT I cant believe I just read that email from Stacey. She is not in touch with reality. I think everyone needs to know that JT started The Texas Candle Conference and Stacey had nothing at all to do with it. I can still remember the headaches JT went through trying to gain trust of suppliers that stacey had burned. Not to mention the attendees. Looking forward to the July 2008 Texas Candle Conference. Not sure what Stacey is trying to do but I dont think I will be participating or donating anything that way. Thanks for posting this JT. I was wondering what happened to her. Rob in tx
  4. Thanks DebbieTX I appreciate it. MissMary and Kandlekrazy I pm'd ya'll with some information. Thanks again Rob in tx
  5. Leesters, I am using my roach clips at this time. Actually if you use a paperclip it should work fine. It just needs to be taut and the tea light wicks are short so it shouldnt take much. HTH Rob in tx
  6. Old Williamsburgh Candle Co. They had a recall on some candles. Me and Stephanie went to the Dollar Tree tonight. We didnt feel like getting all dressed up to go to Wal Mart. Anyway I picked up one of these candles and looked at it. The wick is not even close to the center and there are some strange looking holes on the candle you can see them through the jar. They look like pits. I will get some pictures of it and post them. The wick is about a 1/4" away from the bottom of the container. I googled the company when I got home and this is the link for the recall. http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07092.html Rob in tx
  7. I reallly appreciate the comments but all the thanks have to go to Ya'll. I get a lot of request for custom fit tools. But when someone needs a special design and lets me know what they want I have to give the credit to them they deserve it. I personally think Vicky had a great idea and it works great.:highfive: Steph and I appreciate all of our customers and because we used to make candles we were always looking for easier ways of doing things to save time and headaches. And with all of ya'lls input it works. Yes I am a Redneck. Ya'll really need to thank Gerrie, ChrisR & LauraB, they were the first testers of the Wick Centering Tool for Pillars over 5 years ago and without their positive input I probably would not have continued with the Patent. And whenever I read that I am a genious I make sure Stephanie and my Daughter Katelyn read it everyday so they do not forget. And I give up. What is a Shizzy? Rob in tx
  8. Thank you for all your replys and help. I too have used butters in some of my soap recipes. I just haven't used any of my Cocoa Butter yet, and didn't know "how" to use it. I'll try some in my soap recipe at a lower rate and see how it works for me. Thanks again!! Edited because "he" was logged on!! grrrr!!
  9. I strongly feel partnerships are very risky and you should know them very well. Make sure you both have ideas and one is not going to ride on your ideas but will want to make all the decisions. That does not work at all, believe me. One thing is a General Partnership and you can write that up and get it notarized anywhere. General Partnerships are different than a Business Agreement. What is really important in my opionion is getting the Business Agreement which will outliine all of your business practices, Policies, bylaws, etc. Just make sure everything is outlined and everything is covered. Then file it with the State. That way if something happens you are covered. Be Carefull and Good Luck Rob in tx
  10. Vicky those look sharp. I'm not even going to ask how? Rob in tx
  11. Here is a statement from the US Patent and Trademark office. You can use the TM mark without registering it with the USPTO. As long as you can prove you have been selling your products legitimately under that name first. Is registration of my mark required? No. You can establish rights in a mark based on legitimate use of the mark. However, owning a federal trademark registration on the Principal Register provides several advantages, e.g., constructive notice to the public of the registrant's claim of ownership of the mark; a legal presumption of the registrant's ownership of the mark and the registrant's exclusive right to use the mark nationwide on or in connection with the goods and/or services listed in the registration; the ability to bring an action concerning the mark in federal court; the use of the U.S registration as a basis to obtain registration in foreign countries; and the ability to file the U.S. registration with the U.S. Customs Service to prevent importation of infringing foreign goods. When can I use the trademark symbols TM, SM and ®? Any time you claim rights in a mark, you may use the "TM" (trademark) or "SM" (service mark) designation to alert the public to your claim, regardless of whether you have filed an application with the USPTO. However, you may use the federal registration symbol "®" only after the USPTO actually registers a mark, and not while an application is pending. Also, you may use the registration symbol with the mark only on or in connection with the goods and/or services listed in the federal trademark registration You can go to the USPTO web site and get a lot of information. They also have a number that you can call during business hours and they will answer any questions on Patents or Trademarks. They are very helpfull when you call. www.uspto.gov HTH Rob in tx
  12. Hey everybody, if you use the Wick Centering Tool for containers here is a little tip to hold the wick secure. I just bend it over and it holds just fine. Some people use paper clips or clothespins. Try wrapping your wick around one of the legs it holds it taut and you can still keep your containers close together. Taller containers I just bend the wick over because the wick is not long enough to reach the leg. I am attaching a picture to show yall what Im talking about. Hope this helps. Rob in tx Click on link to see close up of what I am talking about. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e166/Beginner101/tips2-2.jpg
  13. Eugenia it almost looks like you can point your lights straight down and maybe try just setting them on the corners pointing in the box. Moonshadow your picture after you edited it looks great. Rob in tx
  14. Eugina do you use the light coming in from the side. Mine looks about like yours. The instructions I got were to shine the light from the top. Just curious if you tried both ways and if coming in from the side works better. TIA
  15. Jenn I Made one the same way as dpowell with this link. http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/how-to-make-a-inexpensive-light-tent/ It was easy to make and it worked great. dpowell my pictures came out yellow too. I turned off my flash and they came out good. I use kodak easyshare for my photo editor and brightned them more. I only have one up on my site right now but on my home page under the welcome sign I have one that I did with the light box. I have to make a taller box. I have a lot more pictures to take. www.wickcenteringtool.com HTH Jenn
  16. Thanks for the input dpowell. Maybe it's just me, with the last two batches of soap?? You know how you get something in your head...and everything else just doesn't sit right?? I normally use the Distilled and will go out and buy this again..and make another batch with same fo and recipe and see if it's just me . Thanks for the advise all!
  17. Cindys I use JB Weld to fix molds with a seam. You can get for less that $4.00 at Wal Mart, Auto Stores and I think there are some dollar stores that carry it. It comes in two tubes you mix equal parts of each tube and mix it well. Then just fill in the seam along the side and it welds it to where it wont leak. HTH Rob in tx
  18. Would love to see cut pics and see how it did?? Love the swirls! O.k I would not Rob!!
  19. I used to sell a few of them when I had my shop. I like the push up tubes or deoderant tubes for these. They fit in your purse and you can use them whenever you want! I like the fact that you don't have to worry about lotion spilling out or trying to get that last drop out of the bottles. JMHO Buy a couple of tubes and try it out. I love these lotion bars myself! (sorry, he changed who was on while watching a movie :-( )
  20. Bill most votives are approx. 2 oz. which means you'll get at least 8 maybe 9 votives out of each lb of wax. So you should get 80 to 90 votives out of the kit. 1 case of wax is approx. 55-60 lbs of wax. You should call or email Peaks to find out for sure. Robert
  21. You go girl!! Those look really good! Well there is no stopping you now. Although I haven't done the milk for liquid, I've read plenty!! Just make sure you freeze it and add lye slowly and stir. I will be watching. Ain't it just so much fun?? lol
  22. It depends on the kind of wax you are using. I pour my wax at about 185 to 190. There are a lot of experienced candle makers on here that use alot of different types of waxes. You can do searches on this board and find a lot of information. It would be good to do a search for your wax and see what everyone has to say about your wax and different things they have run it to. A lot of good information. HTH Rob in tx
  23. StickyWick the mold does it for you. You can look around at different suppliers. They have a lot of different style and shaped molds. Some of the Square molds have a flat bottom but a chamfered edge. You just have to look around and see what you like best. The main thing is to keep testing until you get a nice and safe burning candle. HTH
  24. StickyWick, do you have a concave bottom mold or a flat bottom mold. On the Concave Bottom mold when you pull the candle out of the mold the bottom is actually the top. After I make my first pour I usually tap on the mold to help settle the wax. Tap lightly if you dent the mold it will be hard to come out and will leave marks on the candle. I Wait about 45 minutes and then I pole relief holes. Like I said the curing time may vary with different waxes. Ive never dealt with Soy or Palm so Im not sure how fast or slow they need to cure. HTH These are candles from a concave bottom mold. The top is concaved and has a chamfered edge. The top was the bottom of the mold when I made the candles. Rob in tx
