I use honey powder and I just mix it with some of the oils to pame a 'paste' and then pop it back into the oil pot and blend

Hi guys, Just opened my carton of Palm wax and it feels, looks like the Palm Oil I use in soapmaking. It's not the feather/granite/lava Palm Wax...just plain Palm wax that 'apparently' I can use alone or as blending wax. I'm only at the testing stage (don't I just LOVE that...not) but if it's the same as the Palm in soapmaking, I can get it a lot cheaper. Packaging doesn't help me as both are 'repackaged by the supplier. I've also rung each supplier and they are of no help either. Does anyone know? Cheers, Hells

This thread has been really informative. I wrap mine in cling wrap (yes, I know it has the capacity to warp the scent) but here in Aussie our soaps will be seeping by the next day. When they do, they look woeful and feel greasy to touch. I'm going to try the cello idea. Although I must say, cling wrap looks great Cheers Hells

Hi, Mine leave a small residue also...sort of looks like the glass is a ittle dirty. Most people don't mind, however I tell my workshop participants that if they DO mind to wipe the jar clean with a nappy tissue (we call them wet ones). Glass will be sparkling clean then. (just make sure they understand not to clean it when the candle is actually burning...hehhehe) Cheers, Hells

HI, I use either soap moulds (the plastic ones) ot the metal flowery shaped tart moulds. The main thing (besides making sure water can't get in them) is to ensure that the top is wider than the bottom. If they aren't, they will roll over in the water. Cheers, hells

Hi Guys, Thankyou so much for your lovely comments. I must admit, I was as proud as punch! They were a bit of work though..I'm 'decorating challenged' and 'computer challenged' so I had to print one one A4 sized label the pictures and cut them by hand. I tied organza ribbon around the neck and then glued stars off of Xmas beads (you know the beady ropes that go around the Xmas tree). Work of love....but he is BEAUTIFUL isn't he??? Cheers, Hells

Hi guys, I don't wear gloves....a few times I've had some on my skin but I know about it soon enough, and since I work within 3 feet of a sink and 12 feet of a shower, I just wash my hands. Now...as for the eyes. I used goggles initially and then became lazy. One day, a small portion of lye flicked up inot my eye when I was stirring it...AND I was stirring gently. I bolted to the shower, and my poor eyes were washed and washed...it feels TERRIBLE washing out my eyes, and even now I remember whilst I was in the shower (shoes and all).....how *&%^$#$^ stupid I was not to have had my goggles on. I NEVER not use goggles now. I even went so far as to buy a really cool looking pair of safety goggles that are comfy and just claimed on my tax. The problem with my old goggles is that they were thick, scratched and really uncomfortable. PLEASE wear eye protection. The membranes in our eyes is so thin...... Cheers, Hells

When I go downstairs later this morning I'll look in the cellar for the boxes with the paraffin wax and I'll tell you what it is. My candles really look great....from memory it says parrafin 63 degrees??? I'll double check and report back Cheers, Hells

FunFlames: I haven't tried that size metro...does it look good?? I did use the 226g (which is the 8 oz) and I found the CDN 14 worked like a charm. I was trying 60 Soy 40 Paraffin in a 10oz apothecary container (because I adore the look of those jars) but I tried and tried and came up with NOTHING!!! To see which wicks I tried.....if you want to use that jar also, do an advanced jar and type in my name and I listed ALL of my tests. hehehhehe Do you mind telling me which CDN worked best for you in the 10oz metro? I might get a couple of jars in and see how I go. Cheers, Hells

Hi Carebear, I have a grid that I just made using paper..then I laminated it.....I just pop that over the soap when I have taken it out of the mould and use it to guide throu the slicing process. The sides of the dish are ok...but four corners do have a 'rounded' type of look to them..so out comes the crinkle cutter!!! lololo Those I put in gift baskets, gifts to family etc I think the trick is to make the dish really sturdy by making sure it cannot move and is controlled by the cardboard box it sits in. My son went to Bunnings (hardware store) and bought some rigid plastic sheets and cut me different lenths so I can have straight slabs divided in the mold while it's setting. He said it would have been easier to just use rulers!!!! lolol He could make some dividers but I don't mind cutting. Molds are just so expensive aren't they? Cheers, hellen

Hi guys, I have spent a FORTUNE on all sorts of different soap molds!!! I ONLY use the silicone baking dishes...I can buy them here for about $10 from the Chinese cheap shops (no idea what you call them over there, in fact we call them the $2 shops). To make sure they keep their shape I just plonk them into a box that is not high, like a suspension file box. Any box really, just cut it down so you aren't pouring from any height. VOILA!!! SUPER easy to get out, NO LINING (which I hate), wash well...what more could I want??? Cheers, Hells

HI Sparky, Why don't you just place a lable on a few of your candles, set them up nicely and see if YOU like it?? Personally, I don't like labels that detract from my product at all...so I use a clear, small label with the scent name just over the lip of the lid to the body of the jar. That way people know NOT to open it. Nothing upsets me more than when I am burning a candle and I have something there interfering with my lovely glow....lololol I have my business name etc on the base of the candle along with the warning instructions. On other products, I do use a label that is plain and elegant. My objective is always for people to think "wow, isn't this lovely", and be thinking of my product, not the label. Perhaps write down: 1)How many types of labels do you require? i.e round, square, rectangle (for your various products) 2) What's your objective with your labelling? 3)How much money and time do you want to invest? i.e What type of printer do I have, how much is ink, labels etc etc Perhaps that'll help with your decision process. Also I think it's important to remember that it is YOU that will bring your customers back...not your labels (although contact details are essential). Your friendliness, professionalism, charm...etc etc is what your customers will loveabout YOU...and they will LOVE your product. Your labels (whilst important) will be secondary to all that.
