  1. We make candles with a horse theme, and we are looking to branch out to a bath/body line for people, why not horses too? I found a shine spray that was great on my horse's mane and tail, but attracted dust. Please keep me in your loop and let me know what you find. This could be a great market. thanks, Patty www.barnburnerscandles.com
  2. Clean it out with paper towels as soon as you pour. Wipe GOOD, then put back on the double boiler, then wipe out again!
  3. I agree with Candybee and Groovy Chick! Heat the wax to at least 185-200 degrees. Heat is the important thing here. Also, heating the FO is very effective. We have a best seller that uses NO colour, but is a very heavyFO. Not a heavy scent, but a heavy FO. Because of the no colour, we used to get ugly yellow oozing in about a month from the container candles. White candles with yellow ooze underneath. NOT pretty. Once we started using higher temps, and heating the FO, it helped allot!
  4. We get our FO's from Peaks, and use 3oz per 3 lbs of wax. Parafin based. Astorlite J223 in our 10 oz and 16 oz containers.
  5. We love our presto pots, one for every type of wax. A thermometer is absolutely necessary, because just because the temp is dialed in on the pot, the wax may not be that temp because of volume. Patty!
  6. HI! We use the flat ones, because we sell wholesale to retail stores, and they can stack, and look better on display. Also, they travel easier when you can stack them. Patty BarnBurnersCandles
  7. There are so many variables when testing wicks, wax, etc. IF we were huge companies with huge budgets we could get down to the answers fast. But we are not, so...............we have to be clever and take into consideration the humidity, wind, AC if you are in Calif. in the middle of summer, celing fans, lack of humidity etc, etc, etc. That is why I am so grateful for this forum.
  8. Are you pillars absolutely flat on the bottom?
  9. I have used Fairway Glass for years. They are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am using them still!
  10. We use ours all of the time, to clean out pour pots, get rid of wet spots.......ARUGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! and just melt the wax that spills around our work area. A great thing to have!
  11. We use Fairway Glass. They are great to work with, and have quality products. BUT, I am in California, and they are back east, so the shipping cost is almost the price of the glass.
  12. HAY! Wick'n'wax, you are right! I should get over it. No customer seems to even care. Thanks for the reality check. Candle Lady, thanks too for your insight.BTW, how do you pour hundreds of candles in ONE day? I need to talk to YOU! LOL! AmySue? We seem to be in the same boat! GOOD ADVICE you guys! Thanks so much for your help!
  13. STELLA! Thanks so much! I have some great info togo on now. You all are so helpful. Patty
  14. Sweet Pumpkin Spice from Peaks ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I am new to this message board thing, but your Albert caught my eye, and I have to say not only is your candle brilliant, but your kitty is too. You are creative, and blessed to have had such a lovely animal friend.
  16. We use wick pins! We usually pour 24 at a time, and when it is time to pull them out, the bad boys that don't want to pop out, we put them in the freezer! They are ready to come out easily after that. It seems that different FO's used determines the ease of the release. Some of our candles pop out easily, and some don't. Maybe it is the amount of "oil" in the FO?
  17. I think this is the BEST advice so far. Thanks. I am getting resolved to the fact that this is just a part of the process. I go to stores and look at the Yankee displays, and the Illume displays, and Candlelite and all of the other "biggies", and I see so many flaws and stuff I worry about with our candles. So I guess I am just too worried about the stuff consumers wil never notice?
  18. THANKS SO MUCH all of you! I will use your tips and get back to you. This really helps!
  19. I meant yes, not yew! I am tired. Thanks for helping. You are in Kentucky? I am in California. Truth be known, we are looking for a supplier that is closer to us so we can get our wax without the shiping cost hit we take whaen we order it from Ohio.
  20. THANKS! Yews, we do heat them. But thanks for the "veggie" tip. We will look into it. Sheesh! I guess the nature of the biz is that there is just very little you can do when you are working with organic materials in uncontrolled environments. I prefer parrafin, as you seem to do. But we are dabbeling in soy blends to see if it helps.
