  1. Mac, Thanks for the warning about FO's, I didn't realize they were flammable. I've been doing 10% in my candles, because I felt like if I did less, it wasn't as fragrant. Of course, finding out about this makes me think that less fragrance but not catching on fire...well, yeah, I'll try again with 8-9%. Thanks Again, Barb
  2. Thanks for your input, Stella and Mac. I have been experimenting with new fo's and blue dyes for the first time. Mac, you're right, I've never seen so many problems with the blue dyes! I was also having problems with the wax choking out the wick but I thought that it was a wick problem. I was using Eco wicks but don't care for them so I switched to LX which worked pretty well for me. I tried out zinc but the top of my wax caught on fire! I'm not sure what happened but I haven't tried zincs since. On the one that caught fire, the wick was trimmed but I was trying it in a 4oz. Victorian, so I didn't know if it needed more space, like a larger jar, or what. Anyway, I agree with Mac, I've really learned so much here and it just frustrates me to hear of people attacking one another. I may just be naive, but I appreciate any and all advice here! :smiley2: Thanks, Barb
  3. Hi, Okay, I know this conversation ended, but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents, because I was actually searching to see if others were having problems with CBA. I have only ever used CBA and although I haven't really had wicking problems, the last 2 batches of wax I got have had unbelievable frosting! I was shocked, I loved this wax because it didn't frost! Anyway, I didn't get my wax from CS, I got it from 2 different places, Wholesale Supplies Plus and Creative Illuminations. I am going to work on putting the wax in a less drafty place and maybe try the oven-theory (thanks for that idea!) but I just wonder if Ecosoya has changed their recipe or something. I am definitely somewhat of a newbie, but it sure is odd that others are having the same problems. :undecided Barb
  4. Hi, I am planning to get my on-line soy candle store up and running on 11/1. I am wondering if others have gotten a business license if this is all they had. I am making the candles in my home but I will only sell them on-line, not out of my house (like a home retail) or a literal shop in town. I am concerned when filling out the business license registration that I have to put an address but I am renting this house and don't want to get into any zoning issues. Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and how to handle it. Thanks!
  5. Hi, Thanks everybody for the advice. I am using Ecosoya CB-135 Advannced, so I think 10% fragrance load will work for me. I think I will go back to liquid dye since it is easier to control. I appreciate others perspectives though, that's really helpful. Thanks!
  6. Hi there, I am fairly new and I am beginning to make soy container candles. I was wondering, for those of you who do soy containers, do you use dye chips or liquid dye? I have used liquid but then switched to CandleScience's dye chips for soy because they were cheaper, although I am having a hard time controlling the darkness of the color. Is it just a trial by error process? Also, what is the common percentage of fragrance? I thought I heard it was 6% but am not sure. I saw on a few candle supply sites that they sell a UV protection additive. Is this necessary? I just didn't know if without it the color would fade. Thanks! Barb
