  1. Hey Donna, yuppers I did check the calc. I've learned the calc is my friend by reading the board so that was the first thing I did.
  2. Never mind. Today I have soap that's, well, hard as soap! I love this. Thank you both for your help.
  3. I still cooked for another 10 minutes after I got no zap because I would have rather pitched it than have it be unsafe. I did have color change so that's great. I think my pot may have been too big for my 2# batch and maybe it cooked a little faster? I was looking for texture change, which I got but I wasn't sure it was a big enough difference? Something I did realize after I cut it yesterday and going over the notes - I confused my lard and cco when I wrote them down and that's in addition to running out of oo and subing some rbo!!! Now I wonder what I'll have? It should have been: 30% lard, 25% cco, 45% oo What I did: 25% lard, 30% cco, 26.88% oo & 18.12% rbo Does anyone have any thoughts on what it will turn out like? I used some & I love it. I've never used homemade soap before & this is so much better than store bought. I just wonder if it'll get harder now that I mixed up the percentages?
  4. Just made my first soap and I have a couple questions. Do you have to see all the stages? Mine stayed pretty much the same once I got the gel around the edge? Maybe a touch different but not too much and that was after the first stir at 15 minutes? I realize part of the process for hp is to cook the water out. If you didn't care about cure time too much, could you pour when you have no zap? I had no zap after 45 minutes but no change in the look.

    Quick Help

Wahooo, I do! Had to check. Thank you so much, you're the best. I'll send ya some if it turns out.
  7. I'm ready to do my first ohp soap, I measure out my oo, 8.5oz. Go to the pantry to get my other bottle and it's gone, damn it! I have no idea what I did with it but my recipe calls for 14.4oz. Does anyone know what I can make an equal swap with? I know they all have different values but I don't know them yet or how to find them quickly. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give.
  8. I did make sure the whole thing was stainless. It just felt kinda flimsy compared to what I have for pots & pans but I assure you I don't know squat about cookware. The only thing I ever looked for was non-stick, that way when I burnt something it didn't take too long to clean up. Thank you
  9. Hope this doesn't make me sound too stupid! Obviously I don't cook much. Can they all go into the oven? I just picked up a stainless one from the dollar store and I'm wondering if the quality of pot makes a difference? One of these days I'll get through ALL the info and through all my questions, suck it up and make soap. (I hope)
  10. I picked some up from a local health food store for a few bucks per pound. You might want to check with them, if you have one.
  11. Not to hijack this thread but I tried the fizzy thing with bombs that didn't harden, bagged them and they got semi-hard. What, if anything, can be done about that or what did I do wrong?
  12. Thanks CareBear. The only thing I could come up with was to color and drizzle some shea on top but I didn't use an emulsifier and don't want him to fall.
  13. I think I may have a successful bath bomb. I did a smaller batch to give to the kids. I topped a couple with some lemon verbena (thanks so much to a sweetheart) and left a few plain for my son but what can I top his with? Does anyone have any suggestions?
  14. CB - What does the starch feel like in the bars? I have never made the recipe but thought it would be like the whipped shea & I never noticed it in there.
  15. I haven't labeled anything yet but all the jars I have they're on the lid. I think because they're short and you see the top.
  16. Hey Carrie - I have seen a recipe that uses cornstarch in the lotion bars, maybe you can add that. Did you use the recipe that calls for wax, butter and oil in 3rds? I'm gone for the weekend so here's the recipe. I think from the archives here on CT, sorry I don't have the name to give credit to. 6oz recipe done in 3rds add 1/2 to 1 tsp cornstarch
  17. I've got my fingers crossed for ya.
  18. You have some serious talent in your family between your soap and your cat. All ours does is attack us. My dog weighs about 70 pounds and she runs him off for fun. She is truly the meanest cat I've ever seen. Fresh eyes this morning. If you cock your head to the left and look at your soap it kinda mimics the outline of your cat in the picture. Oh, the things I'll do to amuse myself!
  19. Your kitty is adorable. The soap looks freaky to me, goat like. Turn it upside down & I'll come up with something else. I love this game. We're outside so much around here I do it all the time with the clouds. If I don't like what I come up with I change my angle.
  20. Very pretty... I really like the way they're changing.
  21. I am a mathmatical dummy so extra help on this would be great but I think...... Figure up all of the amounts in ounces, then figure it to ml's then multiply it to get 1% and divide by 2. Is this right? Please don't make me call the MIL, LOL.
  22. Sharon you are funny. DH doesn't care too much, yet. It keeps me from griping about all of his necessities (this is how I will cover my butt, but I neeeed it). And if that doesn't work my list of excuses will go something like this: Honey, we can pass them out as gifts for holidays. (and give everyone a rash, LOL) Here honey, feel my legs, they're sooo soft. (he'll be stuck on this one and have to cave) Doesn't my face look so much better now that I make my own stuff. (the heavy artillery) It's CHEAPER than buying it!!!!!!If none of that works, I'll just pout and do it anyway, he wouldn't want to try to make me stop now. I'm addicted. I honestly just really love doing it, it puts me in a great mood even when the whole formula is a complete failure! That just means I've conqured the failure. Jadryga - Shame on you for withholding your goodies! Pass 'em out! I would've thought my MIL would love my stuff, she doesn't (yet, but it helps me learn). My sister should've hated it and look what happened.
  23. I love the way your soap looks. Send it to Florida, those are my colors!!!!!! Note to self: Research Room Temp Soaping Good grief, I haven't even mastered a pretty bar of melt & pour yet! Someone save me from myself before it's too late!
  24. I think your recipe looks good. I'll have to put jojoba oil on my list of things to order so I can try it.
