  1. Good to know that Carrot Cake is right on the money... as for the sniffies, I've never used either company, and if I start with another supplier (already have too many!) my husband will kill me. I don't want to get tempted by smelling the perfect Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and not be able to buy it. Your offer was beyond kind though. Thank you.
  2. A-ha! Thank you! I just didn't look hard enough. Good to know that lovely cream cheese smell is still so strong. Now if I can only find a good Oatmeal Raisin Cookie!
  3. Elements Bath and Body Supply in their Flicker's section doesn't carry Oatmeal Raisin Cookies or Carrot Cake. Both of those were 2 of my favorite scents before FF closed shop. Oatmeal Raisin Cookies had a very toasty, raisin-y smell. Light spice. Almost like a "baked"(toasted wheat/oatmeal) Rice and Raisins without the creaminess. Carrot Cake was also wheat-y, with a light spice, very simple, but you could really smell the tangy sweet cream cheese frosting which is important I think the thing that made these so good was the "baked" smell that they both had. Not just straight up sweet or spicy. Can anyone recommend a twin for either of these? Thank you!
  4. I just saw Marshmallow over at Elements. They don't mention anything about it being toasted. I've never tried it but it's an old Flicker's FO and they were really a great supplier!
  5. Thank you for understanding! It was a real WTH? moment when I put the glass cups in the sink to wash and the wax turned to glue! I used several different FOs from different companies, so it's most likely the wax. I think next time I will try the same wax again, and then change out the wax if the same thing happens as before. I was a little surprised that people were reporting that the same wax could be melted over and over in the Presto Pot. I know if I melt a soy tart too many times, or leave it melting for too long, the wax starts to smell a bit off and when it cools it's crumbly. 5 years of doing this and I feel like I know less now then when I began!
  6. That's good advice. Thank you. My water probably wasn't hot enough. I just thought it strange because usually the glass is easy to get squeaky clean with no effort. Yet this time around everything just turned gooey. Very weird. From what I've read there is no issue with reheating/using leftover wax in the Presto many times over so that's probably not it. I thought perhaps I had gotten a bad batch of EZ Soy. I'm weird though because once I ordered a bunch of bakery scents from a much beloved FO supplier and thought they all smelled like a creepy multi-vitamin. I came on here and no one was complaining about the bad batch *they* got, so it must've all been in my head.
  7. I'm having major problems washing the soy wax out of my "pour pots". The leftover wax got gummy, sticky and gluey when I rinsed the pots with very hot water. Adding dish detergent barely helped. Even the dishwasher left them with a residue. Not to mention it was hard to get off my hands. Is this due to an additive? Melting the wax too many times over? Bad wax? More info below: I've been using EZ Soy wax for about 5 years. I use glass measuring cups to mix the wax, color, and FO. When I'm done pouring, I wipe the wax from the measuring cups out pretty well with paper towels. Usually there is just a light residue left. Then I'll wash them by hand with really hot water and a little dish soap. I have never had a problem getting them clean very easily until now. I've recently begun using a Presto Pot(no spigot). There's always some wax left in it that gets heated and reheated. This last time I made some candles, wiped out the containers and I went to wash them only to be left with a sticky mess! (see above) Any ideas?
  8. Backwoods Pumpkin Cornbread is great! Mostly cornbread with a bit of that earthy sweet pumpkin smell. One of the best they have! I also think CandleScience's Pumpkin Souffle smells a lot like cornbread with a bit more spice to it, I guess. They are also having a .99 sale until the end of this week!
  9. Backwoods is my favorite supplier. I love their amazing, CREATIVE innovation in scent combinations, their customer service, and that every fo is soap safe and soy compatible. I also love that they don't have a million scents but the ones they do have are all simply the BOMB! Even the scents I don't personally like for myself are still well blended and smell great. So, after that love letter... are there any other suppliers that are similar? I have almost all BW oils and would like to try another supplier like them. I use Peak(love!), CandleScience, Indiana, BCN, Flickers, etc. But none are like BW! Any suggestions?
  10. I have them on a messy shelf in a dark corner of my kitchen. Usually my FOs go right into dark, lightproof boxes, but I forgot to put these in. Plus, it had only been a month. But it *had* been awfully warm, though...
  11. I bought some ICS FO samplers about a month ago. They all smelled great OOB. I wanted to make some tarts out of a few last night, so I smelled them again and WOW! 3-4 were completely terrible smelling. Christmas Wish, Biscotti were 2 I LOVED OOB a month ago, but now... YUCK! Even my husband thought they smelled bad, so it wasn't candle nose or anything like that. I'm SO disappointed. I've had BCN FOs for almost 2 years that still smell great. Any advice? Commiseration? Rants? -Marcella
  12. I made some more last night and it's still so wet/oily this morning. I mixed 1 lb of salt (rinsed and DRY) with a small dab of Wilton cake coloring and 4g of FO. I shook it up in a #5 plastic container, then turned it out onto a cookie sheet lined with a brown paper market bag. I set them out to dry and this morning they are still wet to the touch. This doesn't seem right! I don't know what to do! I also made some soy tarts out of EZ soy last night and they turned out great. I thought the salts would be easier! HA! I guess I'm still using too much FO. Does the salt eventually dry after adding the FO? About how long does that take? Do you package them immediately after making them or do they sit and "cure" on something absorbent? If they are dry you can use them in tulle/organza bags for sachets in drawers, right? Any more suggestions? THANK YOU!
  13. AH! Thank you soo sooo much, Erin and Rebecca. I will try the dendritic salt. Does the 1/2 oz of FO to 1lb of salt seem right? Do you let the salt "cure" in the container you mix it in or do you turn it out on to the pan immediately? Is foil the right thing to use on the pans? How dry is the salt after the rinse before you add the FO/color? How do you dilute the dye if it's too bright? --- Doris, I was adding the glycerin to make the rocks shinier and the FO have more staying power... or so the recipe said! THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S HELP SO FAR!
  14. I've played around with a few methods but the main one is... 4g glycerin, 12g FO, a few drops of liquid candle color (about 1/2 oz total of all liquids) to 454g (1 lb) of rock salt (solar salt from Lowe's)... All shaken well in a #5 plastic storage container, then layed out on foil covered cookie sheets to dry. Doesn't seem to dry. Seems greasy and the color is speckled. I don't wash the salt first, if that makes a difference. Am I using too much glycerin or FO? Is liquid candle color the right dye to use? I was picturing dry, translucent "precious stones" when they were all done. Sort of like how the aroma beads turn out. Maybe I'm just being a baby and need to experiment more, but FO is not cheap! Just looking for someone who has that GREAT recipe! TIA, again!
  15. I saw other questions of this type here, so here goes! I have been making soy tarts, aroma beads, and "ornies" for personal use for some time now. I recently saw a thread here about the scented rock salt crystal potpourri. Becoming intrigued by a new way to use FO, I decided to do some research. I found lots of different recipes, but nothing definitive like the tart or aroma bead recipes. I've made several batches of the crystal potpourri and I'm just not happy with the way it's turning out. Is anyone willing to share their recipe? I'm making it for personal use and gift giving only so it won't show up for sale anywhere... I am becoming so discouraged! And it makes me not want to do other things. A lot is going on in my life and finding distractions that make me happy are becoming harder and harder. Thank god for FOs, and Disneyland! I love this board! I'm a long time lurker and first time poster. TIA! -Marcella
