  1. Hi. I'm looking for a company with 'tough' labels. The ones I have been using from onlinelabels.com have gone on my lids so i didn't need them to be really heat resistant. I really like those, however, I need crystal clear labels that will stay put when my new glass jars are hot. My old ones just aren't cutting it. TIA!!
  2. Hi.. just one more idea to add to your many great ones on here... check out martha stewart.com and do a search on bamboo candles. she has a video clip of making REALLY awesome candles with bamboo shoots. She gives instructions too.... they look so cute- i'm looking for an occasion to use these myself!! Good luck
  3. millcreek also has one...i ordered it this week. came in today- smells great in the bottle, but i haven't tried it for hot throw yet. HTH
  4. Hi everyone- hope you all had a great labor day weekend. I was just asked to do the favors for my friend's wedding in May. She would like a single jar candle at each spot. I've checked fillmore container, WSP and Candles and supplies, but haven't found what I'm looking for. She would like a tiny container.. approximately 2-3 oz. Any suggestions on places I could look?
  5. Hi everyone. i've agreed to do favors for my friend's upcoming wedding and i'm in search of plain white ceramic coffee mugs. i'm looking for the bigger ones..not the standard size. I'm going to try and check out dollar stores, but where i live the stores are REALLY gross and not at all well kept like the ones back home in ohio. i'm hoping someone carries them cheap online. any suggestions would be very much appreciated!!!!
  6. i would go with onlinelabels.com. i use them and they are wonderful. fast delivery and TONS of shapes, sizes, colors to choose from. **as for your post about not being able to access a previous thread...if you are new to this site, then i believe there has to be a number of days that pass before you can get access to the classifieds... someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think it is 30 days... see if you can send that person a personal message (PM) and they could email you directly.
  7. ok- just had to keep this one going.. you light up my life we didn't start the fire (that's what i'll be telling my insurance agent.. ) eternal flame any others? this is really amusing me!
  8. just an update.. still a little stressed, but i think its in a good way. i'm still very excited and can't wait to get off of work so i can go home and make more candles!!! had a talk with the hubby and he's been great since he's realized how much extra work he makes for me...today he went to the store AND packed me a lunch so i could get as much done before work as i could. good luck to all of you who have shows coming up!
  9. ok- i'm getting ready for my very first show this coming sunday. it's a street fair in greenwich village in NYC. I am so excited for it! however, its now crunch time and i'm running myself ragged trying to get everything in order. i had planned to use the last few days to get a bunch of stuff together, but DH decided to invite his whole family out to our place on friday night...(my "workshop" is in the kitchen so I had to completely clean the apt. and put all candle pouring tools away) then we had to go out to his mother's on saturday and sunday!! not enough hours in the day!! anyone else have one of those 'wonderful' hubbys that plan for people to come, but don't take into consideration that things need to be cleaned, put away etc. :rolleyes2 anyone know where i can get a coffee drip to inject into my veins for the next 5 days?? i'd pay big bucks!
  10. thanks for the suggestions! -as far as the alternating upper case and lower case...that is just the font...I didn't do that specifically...just the nature of the beast i guess. - as for the font size in the 'about us' page...i think it is too small too...i just haven't been able to figure out how to fix it...i even tried typing it in a word doc. and then copy, then paste, but it didn't do any good. if anyone knows how to fix this...it would be greatly appreciated. -and for the topper cutting off the last letter in street and soap...that is so funny because on mine, the topper isn't cut off and it continues with more pictures...so in other words...the word box in the topper is in the middle of the page....weird...must be different for everyone...even the way i have it on my computer isn't how i wanted it exactly. ahh..the headaches that will ensue to try and fix this btw...amanda thanks for a great job once again on the design...i'm absolutely loving it!!
  11. !! Thanks Tiz- my husband wrote that up for me....he's a comedian...actually in real life...nothing is ever boring over here!! I'll tell him you liked it!
  12. Thanks for the suggestions Luci went back and THINK i caught all the comma errors...its amazing how the words just eventually run together when you've stared at it for so long...its good to have "fresh eyes" to find those errors. also added the size to the soap and scrub. thanks again!
  13. please be honest, but gentle website is up and i'm very excited about it. thanks everyone for your imput. www.warrenstreetcandlesandsoaps.com
  14. if you have a handy man in your life, you can have one built for you very cheaply. very simple. mine was made in thirty minutes. the one i have is made of plywood and I've stained it to the color i wanted. This also gave me the ability to make it to the size i wanted...fitting my candles perfectly. also, i've seen them at www.gershelbros.com. good luck!
  15. I've been looking for responses to your question because I am intrigued.... this may be a very stupid question, but what is a vstore? maybe i'm thinking of it as another term??
  16. hi heather- first-good luck with your show! i used to make jewelry for craft shows. now i'm getting ready to do shows with my candles. i too wasn't thrilled about spending too much $$ on a table covering. What i did was go to a fabric store (i used joann's fabrics) and asked them about the 'no-sew' fabric. I got this stuff and its WONDERFUL!!! it does not fray so all you have to do is get it cut to the measurements of your table!!! plus it was very inexpensive..can't remember the exact cost, but i know me...and i'm very thrifty so i know i wouldn't have spent a lot. as an added bonus- its a no-wrinkle material as well....this poor covering has been smushed, bunched and shoved into closets and it still lays out just fine. i like your idea of using a cream color. i think that is what i'm going to buy for my upcoming show. it may get dirtier faster, but thats what they make washing machines for as for the skirting, i've always just gone with a sleek look- not a puffy skirting- and got my fabric large enough to drape simply to the ground. hope this helps and good luck!
  17. i don't have the name with me...i'm at work- but its in greenwich village on bleeker street.
  18. i used golden 444. but, never mind- once i took the candle out of the mold, it really hadn't seeped down as far as i thought and it actually came out very cute- my husband actually asked why i bought a new candle when I make them....he thought it was store bought!
  19. yep. got the tax ID, insurance, labels, logo (my brother in law is an artist- score!) etc. I've done craft shows before when I made jewelry... I was only asking a question about an outdoor show and the weather...i've only done indoor with my jewelry...not really expecting to get into opinions on whether i was ready or not. guess you never know how people will respond on these things! :undecided but thanks to those with positive suggestions on my rainy day problem!
  20. thanks for the suggestions! gives me a lot to think about:smiley2: nod.- thanks for the bode of confidence. I've always been pretty crafty and this seems to be going well. I am working at it a TON though to make sure I've got a quality product that i'm proud of. i also contacted the event coordinator to see what people have done in the past. i'm just keeping my fingers crossed for a beautiful, sunny 70 degree day!!
  21. I'm getting ready to do a show in NYC on May 20th. I just got the info emailed to me. its an outdoor street fair. i get a 5 x 8 space. they tell me that even the biggest "booth" is 5 x 10 and CANNOT accomodate a canopy. Any suggestions about staying dry if the day should be rainy? its rain or shine. I thought about having a tarp but I think that may defeat the boutique"y"-elegant look I'm going for. anyone run into something like this?
  22. wow! bless you for doing a daycare! I know what you mean about it being very rewarding. I'm a licensed teacher but had a hard time finding a permanment teaching job. my husband and i just got married in august and i needed something that brought in consistent money so i opted to be a nanny...i also know what you mean when you say its tough dealing with kids who's parents don't discipline them...that's what i'm going through. i'm just really excited about this candle and soap thing. i tease my husband and say if my business doesn't take off...at least i can cover up the scent of smelly husband with my fo's!
  23. i'm a full time nanny by day in nyc. this last week with one of my "little darlings" has really given me a kick in the pants so to speak to get this candle business up and running! its a two glass of wine kinda night tonight! here we go! lets get that wax a'melting! just needed to vent for a minute!!!!
  24. I was trying to replicate a candle that I have at home. Its a rectangle candle that is brown/tan/and a lighter brown. So- yesterday I started mine. I kept it one scent (fudge brownie) and I poured the first layer into my mold. I wanted a funky diagonal layering so i put something under the mold to lift up the one side. Then when that was cooled, I reheated my wax, added more dye to make the next layer darker and tipped the mold the other way. After this had cooled, I went to repeat the process of adding a little more dye and finally setting the mold straight so the end was even- however the wax i had already pulled had cooled and pulled away from the mold. So the result is that the darkest wax has now dripped down the sides of the already formed part of the candle. is there any way to avoid this? this is the first time i've dabbled in layering. any help would be awesome! thanks
