  1. This one definitely is not lemon scented (anything with lemon is my personal favorite). I just got my first review from my sister who is one of my test burners...she LOVED it and she does not really like scented candles because of allergies. She wants to buy some now that she tried it. She had a problem with mesquite smoke coming into the house and she said it took the smell away and she loved the fresh scent. I'm thinking it might be close to Ocean scent or maybe even some of the clean cotton or clean linen...very fresh smelling. All I can say is I am the biggest skeptic and it works and smells very nice. I found where to purchase it from this forum and promised feedback after testing. :yay:
  2. I've only tried the odor elim from Let it Shine and it has a very nice light scent....reminds me of something, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet.
  3. Thanks for the replies, thought for a while something might be wrong with the fo, but it smells soooo good!!
  4. Would you mind letting me know what you found? I use a 3" square tumbler and tried the LX 26 (in 3 different pure soy waxes) and it seems to burn hot so the candle doesn't last as long. I just ordered LX24's as the 22's are not quite hot enough.
  5. I purchased this fo from Let it Shine and love the scent. I used Eco Soya CB Adv and 1 oz fo per # of wax. It has a great cold throw and an ok hot throw, but I think I overwicked because its burning faster than others. My question is: The wax turned a greyish color after burn, it has to be the fo because this has never happened before...is this normal for some fragrances? I've overwicked before and it didn't happen, and this wax never turns with other fo's.:embarasse
  6. I just started working with EcoSoya CB Advanced and while I love the wax the adhesion is bad. It looks really good the first day, but pulls away worse than the C3. I'm not really sure, but I think climate has a lot to do with performance, so what works great for one of us might not work at all for another. I'm going to test the 415 this week, but most likely will go back to using only C3 as I can pick it up and save big $$ with no shipping. I've pretty much given up on full adhesion to the glass....take a look at some of the Yankee candles and most are pulled away in some area of the glass and they sell off the shelves like hotcakes!
  7. I use C3 alot and with 1 oz fo per pound of wax. I heat to 175, transfer wax to heated glass measuring pitcher add my fo (and dye when I use it) at this time and stir for 2-4 min. I pour between 130-140 (the hotter the pour, the smoother the tops come for me, but I live in very humid climate) I tried pouring cooler or slushy and I get big sink holes?? C3 gets circular cracks about 1/2" out around the wick...these come out easily as they are only on top with a heat gun or a micro torch. Sometimes it gets weird around the wick, but that also resolves with the heat gun or torch. I suck at second pours so I avoid them at all costs, it just doesn't adhere well for me. HTH:highfive:
  8. I know that lemongrass is in the same family as citronella, but I never thought it would repel bugs...does it really work? I'd love to make some. Do you use straight soy wax?
  9. I just started using CB Advanced in the past couple of months and one of the things I loved was the fact that it doesn't get the bumpy top! I did notice that in any fragrance with orange in it, the wax turns yellow (more so than other waxes) and it did get very tiny pits in the top. My micro torch took care of all that. I also leave my candles out at room temp to cure. I usually don't cover for 12-24 hours (depending on weather) and don't box for at least 4 days. HTH:cool2:
  10. Thanks for all the responses. I think I'll try BCN's next as I really like the fragrances I have from them. I didn't see the odor elim there, but I'll do a search on their website for it when I need more.
  11. I ordered the one from Let it Shine, I'll try to remember to post the results with it...I live in brain fog! Maybe it's fo fog!!
  12. The torch is so small you can really control it. The entire torch is only about 6" and fits in the palm of your hand (it holds a butane lighter inside.) My husband darkened one of the tops of the wicks because he didn't know to steer clear!! I always cut my wicks a bit long at first so I just trimmed off the brown and it was great. I'm really impressed with this so far. I went back and torched a bunch that I had decided to "clearance" and now they look good enough for regular sale. I even did some colors as suggested and they didn't frost. We'll see how they look tomorrow!!
  13. Thanks!! I do like the smell of cloves and I should have thought of it...my mom uses cloves in her drawers and luggage to keep away mildew smells!
  14. Does anyone know where to get an odor neutralizing fo? I've seen candles in pet stores and elsewhere that neutralize pet, smoke, household odors and I'd love to make some, but so far can't seem to find the fo.
  15. Thanks Carol, I was beginning to feel like a nut job (maybe a pyromaniac??)standing there torching the tops of candles!!
  16. If you have an IKEA nearby, it is also a source of inexpensive glass. Restaurant quality glasses work well for candles, usually .50 or under.
  17. I guess I should have mentioned that I'm using soy wax (usually 100% soy, not a blend)
  18. As a test my husband tried to smooth out the top of a candle (one that had already burned several hours) with a tiny hand-held butane torch. When it cured it looked very smooth and nice. Just wondering if anyone else has tried these? I wouldn't suggest it for colored wax as it would most likely frost it, but natural seems to work great.
  19. I use straight C-3 in my tins. They come out really good, other than those dang floating wicks! If the wax is too hot when you pour, the tin heats up fast and the glue dot gives up its hold! I started pouring between 120 and 130 and they are working out great. I don't use dye either, just fo.
  20. I'm looking at a fragrance catalog from Peak and noticed some of the flashpoints are very low...like 90 - 145 deg. It states they are safe for candle wax, and I'd like to try some of them but I'm afraid. Anyone tried any of these (if yes, do you still add fo at 170): Apple Jack & Peel Banana Nut Bread Cranberry Citrus Eucalyptus Leaf Fruit Slices Juicy Pineapple Lemon Pound Cake Orange Pear Spice Sage & Lemongrass Wild Cherry
  21. OldWillKnotScales.com (ebay store) I think has the best prices and great scales. All items have a buy-it-now option, so you don't have to go through the bidding process.
  22. Fillmore Container has one that looks like this in clear and frosted glass. You purchase lids separately from them, so various available.
  23. Hmmm...Encyclopedia Candelidica! only $599.00 for the set?? Don't think for a minute that they wouldn't sell!
  24. Right now I'm using Cargill C-3, and I set it between warm and 200, tested temp a couple of times and it is at 170. How long can you leave it? I was afraid if I left it too long the natural oils in the wax would begin to burn off. Also will the lid cause condensation to form or is the temp low enough that it won't happen?
  25. Ok, after hearing you all talk about it, I finally went to Wal Mart and bought a Presto Pot. I put about 2 1/2-3# of wax in it and it melted way faster than I ever imagined it would! My questions are: Does the pot make popping/crackling sounds? Can't determine if something is wrong, if its because it's new or if it is supposed to do this? Do you leave the lid on until you are ready to use the wax?:embarasse Thanks ladies & gentlemen for your input.:highfive:
